Playing MKV breaks DVD playback?
I noticed this behaviour recently:
If I first watch a x264 encoded MKV, and then try to watch a DVD rip (folder structure) then it will play without picture but with audio. I only have to watch a few seconds of a MKV for this to happen. It doesn't happen for all my DVD's, I have discovered that those I ripped using DVDFab 6218 will work, but those I ripped using an older version of DVDFab (deleted so I don't know version) will not work. All my DVDs are PAL, main movie only, with 1 soundtrack and 1 subtitle track. If I turn off the A200 and turn it back on, all my DVD rips will play again. This happens both from PCH classic UI and NMJ UI. Can anyone confirm this is not just for my setup? |

RE: Playing MKV breaks DVD playback?
Yes, this is a bug I've been trying to get to the bottom of for a long time.
When you run into the bug, try this: go into the settings and turn autoframerate (NTSC/PAL/24p) off, save, then on, save. Now try plaing the DVD again. This doesn't have anything to do with how you rip the discs, because it happens to retail DVD's on my C-200. That is if you're seeing the same bug that I am, of course. 17TB WHS 2011 w/FlexRaid -> PCH C200: Hitachi 2,5" 160GB & LG CH08 BD-ROM -> Onkyo TX-SR507B -> Pioneer KURO PDP-LX5090

RE: Playing MKV breaks DVD playback?
Thanks! I was pulling my hair why dvd iso's wouldn't play anymore.
But indeed from a fresh boot they work fine. I don't have to play a mkv though, playing an avi screws them up as well. The auto framerate off/on thing works for me (but tested only one case sofar) |

RE: Playing MKV breaks DVD playback?
I confirm this bug, it is a bug in the auto framerate switching.
After playing 24p MKV's it is not possible to play 25 fps DVD's or mpg files. The problem with this is, that not all units suffer from this bug. I stopped using auto framerate (I use 24p as output resolution) and select the framerate manually if I want to play anything else than 24p. In fact I advise rebooting this unit before any important playback (to prevent embarrassing moments if you have visitors) |
