You firmware recovered and reinstalled the updated firmware?

I just tried it on 2 different models.

the only other possible thing I see from your posts that might be the cause is you said you get the whole video in seconds.. Theres no way the pch can hold the whole video in memory cache.

Have a bit of balance please, just as its wrong for one person to say there's nothing wrong for everyone it is equally wrong to say that everyone has the issue. They don't.

Best thing is to pick a HD video that we can all test. Then we may be able to track where the issue lies and why some have problems and others not.

Rx window?

If you mean the rcp receive window, I can't edit that. It's stuck on 5290

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
I just wanted to update my findings from last night so it was here if syabas takes a look..

The 1080p vevo music videos appear to be higher bitrate than most other videos. If your network settings (not 10/100, and a decent tcp window setting) and you have enough house bandwidth to play where it buffers much faster than playback it will successfully play. Simulate or adjust settings where your impacting the transfer speed it can get and it will do a variety of different problems.

Things I noticed for the engineer to have when it's not working:
- center preloader circle spins a moment, player.swf status bar shows the color indicating the video is completely buffered.
- video starts to play, in status bar switches to show it doesn't have full data and you can verify in info that it's the 1080p
- within 2 seconds the screen goes black.
- quick check of info shows it's switching to the 720p stream.
- a few moments later you can see it's trying the 1080p stream again.
- IF a preloader circle reappears, it'll start playing the 1080p stream.
- the stream may playback smooth but more often than not it's the play, stop, play stop. The one where if you press pause to let it buffer an extra second it'll be smooth.
- eject and home work to exit the app. I didn't try other buttons and you can play other videos just fine without a reboot.

To recreate:
- youtube set to 1080p
- auto and 0 for tcp recieve seems to offer the best chance to play and the settings I had when it was working just fine for me.
- pretty much any other setting starts the problem.
- you can also use auto and 0 and cause a network congestion senario by limiting internet bandwidth to lower than the video rate.

any situation where it needs to switch the video quality or buffer before starting to play will cause the video to unsuccessfully play.

EDITED TO ADD:

There is a second startup senario I forgot about..

- start playing the video, you see the player.swf preloader in the corner followed by the youtube preloader in the center.
- the preloader goes away and returns a second time
- quick check of the info and it's at a 720p quality and not the original 1080p.
- 20% chance it'll play and most likely need to be paused at least a second to buffer a little more and then play.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
Yep I also tried it, have gigabit and it played fine.

Seems that it is a bandwidth issue and it may be that on a busy home network even gigabit users could have problems due to the higher bitrates.

Wonder if there should be some kind of test to see if the network can handle 1080p bandwidth before playback or some way of warning users that bandwidth is suspect for 1080p. If it buffers it should not be an issue for slower internet speed?

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
Like I told to accident in a pm, I don't think it's a buffer issue. The app will still crash if I let the video buffer. Some more details:
if i play a 1080p clip and press pause i can see the progress bar filling half way through and then the app crashes to a black screen, even if the clip was on pause.. so i'm thinking its something to do with the pch handling memory. Looks like it happens when the pch reches a certain amount of MB in memory.
