RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
I'd recommend to not speculate or guess exactly where it's going wrong. It can and has confused engineers in the past when the information is translated (they don't all speak english) and they start working on it. Best advice is refer to my post to see an example of how to try to fully hash out and describe what your experiencing, where it appears to go wrong, and settings and steps needed to make it work and not work as well as what type of video to use for testing.

btw, you aren't crashing, the video just stops playing.

I'm 99% sure it's 2 issues where the delay to buffer is not based on the bitrate of the video so it kicks off too fast (which can crash the decoder if there isn't enough data to start with). The second issue is it's having trouble handling the switching of stream quality. I could speculate what might be going wrong but again it's best to just report what you find if your unable to hand them a full patch of it fixed.

Sometimes it's best to just report the facts as complete as you can and get out of the engineers way. We could speculate all day long where the issue is. In this case since it appears wireless may need a bug fix update, it's best to quickly get information on what your experiencing and cross your fingers they fix somethign else and add this to the list.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
bug: youtube ignores 360p quality setting. it defaults to 720p (when available). to get the 360p video, i have to time seek to let's say 00:00:30, then youtube will pause, then load the 360p video. but in doing so, youtube will cut the video time to the seek time, in this case 30 secs.

example, i load a youtube video from hdstarcraft that's 20 minutes long. youtube app will load to 720p (as seen by the youtube HD logo on the lower right). but because my connection sucks, there will be no video, only audio. so press info, then time seek, then go to 00:01:00. the app will try to load again, this time the youtube hd logo will change to the normal youtube logo, an ad will appear, then it will load the 360p video. but this time, the video time bar will only range from 00:00:00 to 00:19:00, effectively cutting the video one minute short.

settings: hd display filter off. youtube quality setting set to 360p. latest youtube 2.2.1.
popcorn hour a300.
wired connection.
to replicate, you may use any recent video from youtube channels hdstarcraft or huskystarcraft.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
Is there any way to stay logged in on the most recent version? My PCH C300 logs me off after about a week, I never timed it exactly. I use Google 2-Step Authentication so when this happens I have to go to the web page on Google delete the old app-specific password and create a new one for the PCH youtube app to use. Kind of a pain in the neck!

not all things are fast fixes unfortunately, but yes the people who need to know, know. On the plus side, a little chat with someone the other day has me optimistic about the future and much faster turnarounds. Of course that will never come fast enough for us.

BTW, if your unable to use AUTO, if you happen to have a slightly larger network cable (1.5 meters or longer), try using that with your switch. Seems some green switches auto works when a longer cable is used.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
The YouTube goes black bug started last year in October or so, when the first beta to the current FW was released. I think this is when they started to allow the app to buffer to HDD. Or that is what must happen, because you can now buffer an entire 1080p video to memory, whilst it stopped buffering after a few secs before. Anyway, I could always recreate by loading a 1080p video (Vevo music videos are fine for this), press pause and let it buffer. When I then press play it usually blacks out.

I've reported this in every beta since then, but I'm not sure if they took notice.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
Is this something that this app will be able to do, or is it specific for Google TV devices?

youtube-global.blogspot.se/2012/11/making-it-easier-to-watch-youtube.html

(Apparently my post count is too low for me to post clickable links, so you'll have to copy and paste this one.)

Since YouTube develop this app and it links to a profile, it's might not be impossible.

RE: [18.05.2012] Youtube 2.2.1 available now
If it's just an app that uses the dnla/upnp ability to send a video for playback then the pch already supports that. There's some existing video finding apps out for a few years that easily tell the pch to play it. This just looks like google/youtube is making their own new remote specifically designed around sending it to a tv.

It says in the article that more screens and devices are coming so I would assume at some point it should jsut work, nothing special should be needed in the pch to do it.
