Lol, your old Harmony 885 never had them either, as far as I can tell? I have a bucket full of old remotes here and very few have the colour buttons and very few devices will use them unless they are programmable.

My Hauppauge remotes like the colour buttons but most universal remotes seem to lack them? The Hauppauge remotes are not universal but provide them for features that are not on the regular keys (they don't have a touch screen).

What universal remote(s) are better for this? I'm assuming you have something in mind? I have several of the programmable UEI remotes and my old Sony RM-AV3000 (I sold my second son to buy one). None have the colour buttons as actual buttons.

I honestly find it strange the PCH devices have these buttons without them being programmable.

Just trying to figure find out what you have in mind here?

The coloured buttons are used on the sky satellite box to enter the planner etc, so them being on the touchscreen means it's not as easy to select. Of course I use them on the pch for TVID's too.

The 885 did have them as physical buttons.

Well, damn. This was the best picture I could find of the remote and I don't see them? There looks like a bunch of buttons around the oval in silver (not color) but are they in there?

RE: What remote do You use
When I first set up my home theater (long ago) I purchased an Acoustic Research ARR1540 LCD Touchscreen remote to control everything. You probably can't even buy this remote anymore but I still use it to this day.

Not only did it learn every device with ease but the macros were easy to program so that with a push of a single button the kids could turn on the correct devices to play a dvd etc.

I like the new Harmony remotes but I just can't see spending several hundred dollars to fix what ain't broke Cool

Nope, your right. If it's working for you, why change? I would probably be in the same boat if my old Sony had not lost all it's marbles and at the very least, required full reprogramming. I was pretty pissed when that happened and decided to move on to something else.

I like the Harmonys because they don't need to learn most anything. You get that most 99.9% of the time when you use their software and tell it the device name/model number. The only thing required is to explain what ports are used to connect the different devices.

It's a pretty slick system and if you have a new unknown device, the learning feature uploads the information and shares it with other Harmony users.

Pretty cool setup.

P.S. - If your Harmony drops it's brains, plug it back into your computer and within a min. or so, it's programmed again.

I've had an MX-500 for about 10 years now. Still going strong, but the Harmony line will probably be at the top of my list when/if I need to replace it.

I use the Sony RM-AX4000 remote. I use one in my home theater and one in my bedroom. I got them both program to control all eq. plus lights and ceiling fan. Each one is about 4 year old with no problem. My wife love it.
