Lost Network Connection
Hi,

I came back from a few days break and the c-200 has lost the network connection. Nothing has been touched.

I have a DHCP router and have generally used a Auto IP.
I tried to obtain a new IP using the Auto IP setting however the adress obtained is not one that my router should be issuing.

My addresses are 10.1.1.2 - 10.1.1.254 on subset mask 255.0.0.0 as set up on the router.

the auto ip is getting something like 169.254.50.250 on subset mask 255.255.0.0.
Mac address 00.06.DC.80.76.94

I have swapped out all of the cables for working ones (tested)
I have rebooted the router and checked the settings.
I have checked the point - can connect a laptop with the cable
I have changed the cable port on the back of the router

The PCH is connecting to something to get the autoip as if I pull the cable out it doesn't get anything.

I have set a static IP address using the right subset mask and it still cannot connect to the network nor can I ping the PCH.

The rest of my network works fine - a NAS, a PC, and an android phone using wireless and using the DHCP server .

So all I can conclude is that it is somehow the PCH.

Any ideas? It has me stumped.

RE: Lost Network Connection
Try to switch to Manual IP, then Save. After that go back to Auto IP and see if you get the proper IP from your router.

Didn't see it in your post but did you reboot the c-200?? You probably did, but just in case you forgot....

Thanks Guys,

I have rebooted, tried manual ip's, changed the 10/100 to auto and back again.

I think there is something screwy going on with the network point, it is hard to test though. I have tried both my laptop and PS3 and they say they are connected to the network (get an IP), but they can't see the rest of the shares on the network or get an internet connection. I am going to have to unplug the PCH and haul it into another room to see if I can get an IP address there.

It was a damaged network point. Despite having been assured that the satelitte TV installer had not touched the gang plate where the network point and coax point were, when I took the plate off there were a couple of wires not connected to the point... Could have saved myself a few hours of headache there! Dodgy

No its not getting it from anywhere - 169.254 is APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing), ie devices that are set for dhcp and no dhcp answer will give themselves a random IP in the 169.254 range.

Off topic but Im curious -- what the hell you using a /8 mask for -- you think you might have need of 16 million + addresses? Wink

Sorry, this has been solved - it was a damaged point. I am not a network guru, the 255.0.0.0 mask automatically appears in windows when you use the 10.0.0.0 ip range. Hey - it works, why mess with it? Big Grin

RE: Lost Network Connection
Yeah I saw that you got it fixed - just explaining where the 169.254 came from is all Wink

Sure /8 will work, just a bit over the top is all Wink
