Re: 10,000 BC and Jumper BD5 releases
spawn Wrote:If you demux and analyse the h264 tracks in these encodes for BD5, its identified as a JVT NAL Sequence rather than an ISO AVC/H264 - this basically means the wrapping in the file is different from the normal ISO wrapping which make the stream unsuitable for use in an .mkv container. The JVT NAL Sequence wrapping is for mpeg ps/ts containers, which is used by the BluRay format - therefore the file gets playable when remuxed to a .ts or .m2ts container. Finally a sound explanation! Thanks a lot spawn! Could you please explain how to determine the above details? What software do you use to determine the encoding sequence? |

Your welcome 8) I demuxed using mkvextract and got separate h264 videotrack and ac3 audiotrack - then analyzed the h264 track using Avinaptic. |

I've done some testing with the BD5 type releases. In order for it to comply with bluray standards it needs a keyframe at least once a second. Which is where the problem is especially when audio is introduced. It also explains why cutting the file (reducing the amount of keyframes) plays ok. In a Popcorn Hour I tested a few different encodes of from an 85 and a 95 minute movie. Audio on 85 minute was 1536 DTS, audio on 95 minute was 640 kbps AC3:
NAL\10 second keyframes - both play NAL\10 second keyframes\audio - both play 1 second keyframes - 85 minute movie played, 95 minute movie didnt 1 second keyframes\audio - both don't play NAL\1 second keyframes - 85 minute played, 95 minute didnt NAL\1 second keygrames\audio - both don't play I think it comes down to the hardware used for software decoding not being able to handle many keyframes along with audio. RAM issue maybe? Hopefully a firmware update could optimize the software so they can be played from the mkv container. |

The free Big Buck Bunny video, 1080p, which plays fine until it gets to the end credits. At that point it enters a 5fps jerk-fest.
It is a free download, and somewhat amusing for kids. I got the AVI MP4 1080p version: -rw-r--r-- 1 lundman lundman 928670754 Jun 8 10:44 big_buck_bunny_1080p_surround.avi http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/ |

Is variable bit-rate MP3 an issue? I had a film that had it, that only gave out chirps at one-second intervals for audio. When I converted the film to contant bit-rate, the audio was fine. The new version also fast-forwarded fine, whereas the original got stuck in fast-forward for a time after I'd gone back to regular speed.

This film has been discussed previously as have all of these new poorer quality PS3 releases. Stay away from any release with BD5 in the title. The orginal mkv does not play and the NFO includes instructions to make the BD5 via a BAT file.Once done mount with daemon tols or similar on your PC and explore to the STREAM folder. There you will see 000001.m2ts. That file will play BUT the resolution and bitrate are poor compared with proper none BD5 releases. Does not play audio. The whole piece if in 3 parts, and none of them have audio though the video looks fine. I'm assuming the other 2 are encoded identically.
