huh we try to update you guys as often as possible, but we can't give clear release date infos, because there are to much things which can delay a release, the release was planned 1 week ago, thats what i posted without any guarantee, as you may notice it is still not out.
Currently it is still in QA Full Test which is not finished.
QA can't give us a fixed date because they have to test other firmwares also, like for A2xx, C2xx, A1xx, B1xx, Asiabox, Popbox,.......................... and also firmwares which will switch SDK, Firmwares for future device which are in development and so on.
Currently last info is that RC2 will go public, but as long as we don't have the Full Test report from QA, we simply can't release it, or void it and if voided, then fix it and bring a RC3.

So now we think release should come early next week, and that is again without any guarantee.
I think we give more infos then many other companies, many companies doesn't bring any updates at all, even if there are strange bugs! and new features for sure not at all and we try to improve and bring features which you will get for free with still frequent firmware updates and thats now already for the C200 over 1 1/2 year, even the old series still receive updates after more then 3 years.

It is also simple that there is no bug free mediaplayer on the market and it won't come that a mediaplayer with so many features can get released bugfree, with all the thousand different encodings and codecs and container combinations, different Hardware combinations,.....................
But for sure we could do the same as some companies do, then you will get a bugfree player, but do you really want a player where you then can only play 1 codec/container?

Also still we try to include the community as good as possible, it is a win win situation for both.
There wouldn't be that fantastic community with all its developers, who bring nice tools and also fixes without us, on the other hand without the community we would be just another mediaplayer company.
The help from the moderators which are also only normal customers and do it for free is fantastic.
The forum is very user friendly, many users/mods/devs try to help each other in a friendly tone, thats not a general behavior on such forums, there is no censoring, like many other forums do.

Werner

Can I suggest you get off your high horse and take this up with Syabas rather than the end user forum? We do not need to subscribe to your views.

How can you defend the lack of support and communication from Syabas?

You put in an actual support request on a problem with the product (defect) and they tell you to go to the user forum to get help!!!

I have been developing software for most of my life and it isn't rocket science to meet a deadline and when you don't meet a deadline you have a responsibility to communicate the change in expectation in a formal way to your customers.

How come it is accepted that Syabas will use this forum to make an announcement of an upcoming release, etc and set an expectation and then people jump to defend Syabas when they don't have the respect of their customers to come back out here and give an update?

I am still waiting for some basic fixes to defects in the firmware from 9 months ago! How about stop with the new features and work on fixing what you sold?

Thanks for the additional information. Werner you have ALWAYS been helpful and I fully understand where you are coming from.

I guess the real issue here is Syabase relies heavily on this USER forum and they really need to do a better job providing you guys the info/resources that you need. They won't ever leave the "cult" product status if they don't get a lot more formal about their release process and approach.

I think their media platform has a lot of promise but too many times it seems just a couple steps above DIY.

glenn

I got a Jeep Grand Cherokee 200K plus on the odometer I do flush, however if you refer to the buckets they build these days I would also not bother and get a new one every other year..
My other car is a Saab Aero with over 400K both cars are build in the previous century.
And FYI the price of gas is 2.5 times higher over here...

OK back on topic.

It's not like someone is keeping the cooky jar closed until it's time.... but work needs to be finished.

Ha, ha. Frankly speaking if it would be true than there should not be ANY firmware releases at all, as:
1. it's never ready
2. it's never finished
3. it always needs to be finished
4. it always spoils something that worked before

Big Grin

P.S.
I humbly ask Syabas to fix:
1. BOB deinterlacing method instead of progressive scan and adaptive dinterlace (but hardware is capable just not used) - eg. for SD retail DVDs or 1080i: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...hlight=BOB
2. Restore TCP/IP receive window setting for WIRELESS as since (disabling it) wireless net is slow like a turtle!

Ha ha, correct and the only conclusion can be it's their call their responsibility and therefor their timing..

As for Interlacing that is a choice that should require a vote from the users if they all agree BoB is the best method... start a thread an ask for a vote....
Anyone know what the default Rwin setting is?

about BoB it doesn't need any voting, because it is fixed internally according to our engineers Wink, so maybe for firmware B or C

Great, thanks! I don't care in "auto" switching because I only use this box for HD content! I hope that this feature will be than delivered with the next FW even if we have to switch "manually"..

Old topic, any news on this? Will YCbCr be in the next FW update or one later?

Werner - I just want to say that I've ALWAYS been appreciative by your helpful updates. You do a lot to help keep us informed. My comments are more angled towards the need for a communication and feedback mechanism, led by a Syabas Product Manager who engages with the community, in a consistent manner. If Syabas directs users here to receive technical help and drives them here to provide product feedback, such as polls, then go all the way and make it interactive. Right now, we're often in the dark as to what's happening or even if our feedback has been received or considered.

I appreciate the feedback above and it is helpful to those of us waiting for fixes (like the broken BRD/DVD folder playback).

Thank you!

Please vote for Native Resolution/Framerate Sync support for the C200 - Option to disable PCH Upscaling - let your TV/AVR upscale here

Ok, so this means that you will release YCbCr on the next FW, with manual switching between SD/HD.

I thought that Sybase will not release that until it is "finished"...

thanks, I really looking forward how the C200 performs with YCbCr! I'm ready to measure the difference ASAP after the release!!
