Thumbsdown Syabas censors apps in China
Dear Werner and the Syabas team,

since the firmware update last year with the new 'App Market', certain applications are not available for me here in China anymore. FYI: this includes Facebook, Youtube, Livestation, and possibly others (they are just not displayed in the app market).
Until then, I was always relying on the Livestation app to get uncensored news from e.g. RFI radio and AlJazeera, BBC and DWTV.

I miss this feature a lot and would like to ask for your reasoning behind this decision.

I pledge that we all have the same apps in every country. What is the sense of a "networked" media player, when I can't receive international Internet media with it?

Please help me to get uncensored news again. I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't just open the market for everyone.

Best,
Arndt

PS. Would also love to hear your suggestions or workaround ideas from the community. I tried already to use a proxy which connects to a VPN in the USA, but it seems the app market still 'knows' that the request comes from China, so it doesn't work. This result also keeps me from trying to install openVPN on C200, I would have to waste a lot of time and effort on doing this.

RE: Syabas censors apps in China
I sympathize truly with your predicament.

However I also understand that this decision by Syabas is meant to abide by regulations in that country where its allowed to be sold.

I would therefore not expect Syabas to address it BUT would gladly offer the advice that you CAN make it work using methods that other people outside the U.S. Have gotten their skingboxes o netflix to work overseas using external proxy servers.

A200 connected to 32" Samsung UA32C5000
C200 connected to Denon 1610 AVR and 42" LG 42LH50YR
Encore ENHGS-500 5 port Gigabit switch.

thanks for your sympathy Smile

I do understand but do not sympathize with the decision Syabas made here. It is a US company, isn't it? Anyway..

If you are talking about openVPN: Is there something better than the wiki entry on how to master the installation?
Or is there an even better thing than proxies or openVPN? As I mentioned, I used a proxy and the app store still did not show more apps. (Proxy was installed on my PC, which was connected to a VPN to US. I was able to use the C200 browser to view Twitter and Facebook, which is normally blocked here)
