RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
Hi,

yesterday I gave 3D MKV a try with the movie "Green Hornet" (TV Panasonic 50VT20). Although the 3D-detection mode was set to "Auto" within the 3D-Menu of my television the movie was not automatically detected as a 3D movie. So I had to choose Side-By-Side manually (Important: I will not be able to explain this to my girlfriend. In other words: woman acceptance factor for watching 3D MKV with C-200 is below zero).

I put on my 3D glasses and it worked...pretty nice 3D effects in the movie by the way.

However, there is one problem (I am not sure if this has been mentioned/discussed already): It is hardly possible to control the movie (stop/pause/rewind/forward etc.) with my remote (Logitech Harmony One) in 3D mode. It actually looks like if this synchronisation process of the 3D movie of the TV with my 3D glasses does influence the control of my c-200. I checked this by deactivating the 3D synchronization in my TV and surprisingly the remote commands were working again as they should. This is really strange. Can anybody report something similar?

Best Regards

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
is your mkv correctly created? it works here without a issue, the tv should switch to 3D Mode.

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
Hi Werner,

I assume it is correctly created because the 3D effects are working. I used the tool DVDFab to create this mkv. Right now I cannot give you more details of the mkv. What details of the mkv do you need (and how should I provide it)?

Do you know how 3D detection works technically? Is this just some meta information stored within the movie?

If you say "It works for you", do you have a similar setup like I have? (Panasonic 3D TV and Logitech Harmony One?)

Thanks for your quick response

If the file is Side-by-Side, then you should name the file <Name>.SBS.mkv

If it is Top-and-Bottom, you should name the file <Name>.TAB.mkv

As an FYI, I tested with a Panasonic 3D TV and Harmony One and it worked as expected (following the <Name>.SBS.mkv naming convention suggested)

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
first we are the first to support the new mkv 3D standard we were inside the discussion about how they will make the mkv extension and also how they will tag the files, if your files are older, then they are normal mkv files just with the SBS or TAB movie inside were you still have to switch manually to 3D on your TV, with the new specs and with our Firmware Update we support the 3D extension and send out over hdmi the info to the TV, that it need to switch into 3D mode, but that can only work if you follow one of the steps.

you can rename your old files as suggested to
file.3DSBS.mkv or file.3DTAB.mkv
then we know it is 3D and which 3D Mode it carries and we will send the commands over HDMI to your TV

or you use mkvmerge v4.5.0 or later to create the files and use the extension .mk3d then it will also send the correct command over hdmi to switch to 3D Mode on your TV

here is a copy/paste from the releasenotes

Code:
- MKV 3D support.
      - Support .mk3d extension with StereoMode parameter (side-by-side,
        top-and-bottom)
      - mkvmerge v4.5.0 onwards includes this support.

- 3D output to HDMI 3D TV for Stereoscopic 3D (side-by-side, Top-and-bottom) file
         - Files must be named with "filename.3DSBS.*", "filename.3DTAB.*"
        accordingly
         - Tested with MKV, AVI, TS (MPEG)

Regards,
Werner

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
Earlier in the thread there is a mention of bringing 3D BD25, what are we talking about here?
Will it be possible to backup a 3D disc including menu in a BD ISO or BDMV rather than just having 3D working for backups to single filetypes and thereby losing the menus/extras?

Hi again,

back home I renamed the file because it was unfortunaltely missing the .3DSBS. part. However, it does still not come up automatically. I thought about my setup and came up with idea that my connection of c-200, av-receiver and tv might prevent the automatic 3D detection to work. My C-200 is connected to the AV Receiver via HDMI (no HDMI 1.4 receiver!) and the AV Receiver is connected via HDMI to my TV. I only have a direct connection between my 3D bluray player and the TV. Can my connection setup be the reason why the the TV does not recognize the .3DSBS. part?

Best Regards

Didn't work for me at first even with the .3DSBS. included, then just started working... I was running through an amp with no 1.4 at the time as well, shouldnt really matter as the pch doesnt have 1.4 anyway. Not sure what got it to work in the end, maybe try resetting your gear? I also found that HDMI control stuff like vieralink or whatever seems to fuck with things, I've got it all switched off on all machines.

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
The 200 is not HDMI1.4 however it sends a HDMI1.4 signal to the TV or receiver. If that receiver then cannot handle the HDMI1.4 signal then you may not be able to get 3D autoswitching. You should still get 3D though and can check if its the receiver by using a direct HDMI link to your TV (cut out the receiver).

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
Hi,

I rearranged my cable connection setup. The c-200 is connected directly to my TV via HDMI and the sound is transported via digital coax cable to my AVR -> Result: Autoswitching to "3D side by side" works now, thanks a lot for your help.

However, I still have the problem with not being able to control my c-200 with my logitech harmony one properly when I watch the 3D movie. For example, I have to press "skip forward" very often and fast until the c-200 recognizes this remote command. Is it possible that the c-200 remote ir-kit and this 3D mode interefere with each other?
When I am back home I will try watching the movie again with the regular remote.

Best Regards

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
It amy be that it requires some extra time to stop the playback and records details in the bookmark for resume, interesting. Post in Video Section and lets see if other 3D users report the same. If not then its a Harmony thing and I would in any case suggest checking the WIKI Harmony page for the best settings:-

RE: Syabas is first to support MKV3D
I know the harmony remote by default sends a lot of extra stop buttons with other buttons. There is a post around here on how to change that behavior. i'm not sure if it wouldn't impact this 3d issue but might be worth looking for it. I don't have a 3d setup to try it myself.
