But I don't care anymore much, I have xtreamer ultra preordered. Does this mean you don't have to reboot your PCH after you watch a few 1080p movies? |

Can someone clarify please about the 1080p playback? thanks.

This update looks promising!
I finally updated from march 2010 version to this and must say, so far so good...! Seems to operate smoother again... |

Does this firmware update change the way the A-110 processes MKV files? Curious if I should continue remuxing my high bitrate MKVs to TS files, or if that's a waste of time now. Someone posted earlier in the thread that now they can watch 1080p MKV files without stuttering after installing this update but I don't see anything specifically mentioning changes to how it decodes the files.

What to you mean by "high bitrate MKV" ?
Most of mine (<=20GB) can be read since I bought my popcorn. I never had to remux them to MKV... The only problem I had was that some mkv with a wrong header could'nt be read but it has been fixed in the previous firmware. |

Most of those types of files would be over 20GB. And those are the files you typically cannot play via SMB. Using myihome or other http server is the only way they work on either of my A110s. |

I was having stutter problems on tons of my MKV files that had bitrate of around 10Mb/s or higher. Only in certain scenes with lots of action or movement (one famous is example is the movie Cars during one of the race scenes). When I first encountered this problem a couple years ago with the movie Full Metal Jacket - a 720p rip no less - I was told by the NMT community to remux to TS because TS decoding takes place at the hardware level (the Sigma chip) and MKV decoding is done in firmware. So the A-110 has more power to decode TS files. Remuxing to TS fixed almost every single stutter problem I had with those particular MKVs.
I don't have any true lossless rips in my collection - nothing is over 20GB - but even 8GB MKVs will stutter from time to time on my A-110. I've used internal HDs, USB HDs, myihome, SMB and NFS and it didn't matter. I always believed it was simply an issue of processing power (or lack of) with decoding the MKVs and when the bitrate spikes the A-110 simply can't handle it. If I"m wrong I would love to be corrected! (FYI: I am currently using NFS on a Synology DS411slim NAS, over CAT6 to the A-110. I've read that SMB may be better than NFS for handling high bitrate content but my experiences in the past with SMB were no different than NFS. Think I should try a different setup? I don't really mind remuxing to TS, but if i can avoid it, I'd definitely prefer to.) Yes, you are correct in that ts is easier to handle the mkv for the a110. 90% of my stuff is full res blu-ray and they simply will not play via smb because of bandwidth limitations on the a110 smb connection. But they all play flawless via Apache http server, which is how I view all my movies on the a110.

so with http you don't need to remux those kinds of mkvs to ts?

right - forgot you were using uncompressed blu-ray. thanks for the info. yeah, until anyone proves otherwise i think there is going to be a permanent problem with the a-110 and some mkv's. i don't see why they can't decode mkv's with hardware like they do with ts files. that would eliminate half of the frustration right there.
