[solved] severe networking problems with netgear router
i had this problem for a long time now and i still could not figure out what the problem is. its hard so search the forums because i would now know what to search for.
My Hardware: - PCH A110 (latest fw) - netgear router DGN2000 (internet, wlan...) the symptoms are as follows: - transmission is extremely slow when i run "transmission-remote -l" or open clutch i usualy get a timeout. - I can't ping outside my lan: when i ping any machine here in the LAN it's ok, but not when i ping any server from the internet. what i have found out so far: when i disconnect a part of my LAN with the PCH from the router i can run transmission normally. it responds fast and all. as soon as i reconnect the router (and thereby the internet) to the LAN its slow/i get timeouts. my first thought was that all the packets from the internet would overload transmission (as in a denial of service) so I removed the portforwarding. but it's still the same. also, the clu load is never high, so i dont think its because of that. I also disabled UPnP on the router with no luck. the only thing that works so far is removing the cable, but whats the point of transmission without internet?! it looks to me as if it the combination of the PCH and this router that causes the problem. but how would that be possible and what could I do to fix it? |

RE: severe networking problems with netgear router
it probably was the DNS servers that caused the problem.
i also disabled upnp and have to test some more to be sure it really was that. |

RE: severe networking problems with netgear router
I still get a timeout when i run "transmission-remote -l" :-(
but now i can just restart transmission and it will work again. I use those two commands to restart transmission without the need for rebooting: killall -15 transmission-daemon (wait some time...) transmission-daemon -g /share/.transmission I guess all I can do now is restart transmission everytime it stops working. |

RE: [solved] severe networking problems with netgear router
it was the wrong dns servers.
i once used opendns but apparently the servers changed or whatever. so those ip's were wrong and i simply changed them. |
