A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
I have recently started having problems transferring files from my PCH. I connect to it through Windows network and try to copy a file from the PCH to the PC and after a few Mbs it stops transferring and loses connection. I can no longer ping the PCH and my router doesn't show it as connected any more (it is a wired connection). I have to restart the PCH to get it to connect again.
I thought it might be problem with WFS so I tried using FTP (Filezilla) and had the same results. I was running out of space on the internal drive so i thought that might be the problem, but clearing up 20+ Gbs of space didn't change anything. I have the same issue whether I'm transferring from the internal HD or an external USB drive. I upgraded to the latest firmware with no change. I installed LTU with no change. I can connect to the web clients running on the PCH with no problem and it downloads fine with Transmission. Anyone have any ideas? |

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
Hello to all,
Same here, I just got a new a-200 and with FTP (filezilla newest version, and latest popcorn hour image on the A-200) the FTP session hangs after a short time. Get error messages of the session (use only one FTP session) and then the A-200 is not reachable any more, not via FTP or SMB or ping. If, after reboot of the A-200, I send the same files with windows share (smb) it all goes ok. It really seems to be FTP related. Hope someone can help us. |

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
Same problem here !
I tried different FTP-tools (Filezillla, WsftpPro, ..) but no succes . Even tried Teracopy to tranfer files from my Windows 7 machine wireless to my Popcorn Hour A-220. After a while (when transfering a file of 10 Gb) the connection is lost. I am using a DLINK D-655 router. Greetings, Rob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
Similar but slightly different problem here, as I transfer files through SMB... all goes ok for 2-3 times, then I try with another file (usually 8+ GB), it always stops at a certain point (varies from file to file), crashing the PCHA210 and giving me an error as if the path for copying the file didn't even exist (iMac here).
Tried via Finder, with several file managers, but nothing works. Well, it works until it doesn't anymore, and then I can't do anything but trying again and again until it works again... needless to say, it's a PITA. Somebody has an opinion? I read on the forum about the little memory of the PCH, which is causing the box itself to crash if the connection isn't stable, because the pc queues blocks on blocks and then retries to send them all, crashing the poor PCH in the way... isn't it possible to create AFP sharing in future FW releases? I know it's a Mac-proprietary sharing model, just asking... ![]() P.s. Sometimes the PCH crashes, sometimes just the NMT Apps crash... maybe a Samba server app problem? |

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
Do you all have internal HDDs? I am having a similar problem and it will go away once the PCH (A210 here) cools down, i either have to unplug it or turn it all the way off. I think it might be a heat issue but haven't sent in to support yet.
When the issue happens see if you have lost the IP address on the network page. |

I think it might be a heat issue but haven't sent in to support yet. I do have an internal HDD (1,5TB Samsung), but the strange thing is if it works, it works flawlessly for hours (I mean 40/80GB at a time), then I turn it off (I have it connected to a power strip, I turn everything off at night), and the next morning I have to pray it works again... it couldn't be the IP, if the PCH doesn't crash (which by the way happens quite a lot transferring large amounts of data), I successfully see the right IP on the network page, and I can ping to it from my mac no problem... I used to think it might have been an issue with Macs in general, but you guys are on Win...

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
Back to report the latest...
curious about the hypothetical heat issue, i turned on my PCH, let it start the NMT Apps, began a 10,59GB file transfer just to test (the ssame one yesterday stopped about 4 times at 4.00GB giving me refnum -51 error), but today I put a big ass fan right in front of it .Results: PCH cool as a penguin on ice, but the file transfer stops regardless. So no, I think I'd exclude the heat issue... ![]() BTW, if it really were a heat issue, I would have thrown my PCH out of the window, no way I'm going to put the thing in the freaking freezer everytime I have to transfer anything... ![]() STILL NO STABLE SOLUTION to this PITA problem. Trying every approach, it seems that FTP transferring works -more or less-, it goes from 10.5Mb/s to 800kbps in some specific sectors (for the file described above, it went down to 800kbps while passing 4Gb, then up again at 10 past 4.02Gb, down again at 5.76Gb, up again at 5.78Gb. It seems the same problem affecting the SMB transfer protocol, but it also seems more stable, so where SMB stops the transfer disconnecting the samba share for the drop in mb/sec (maybe some kind of bottleneck??), the FTP holds it tight, keeps calm and carries on ![]() Anyone has any idea about this "bottleneck"? I read it may be related to a problem with extensions on ext3 filesystems, but I don't really know how to help... Edit: I let SMB and FTP both running, YAMJ with the first, file transfer with the second. Also, weird thing, my internal HDD did a "TAC" sound every 1.5 seconds while transferring with SMB (I though it was the mechanical writing on the disks), but now through FTP connection the HDD makes almost no sound, just a little "bzzzz", followed by normal HDD sounds once every 30 or so seconds... I don't know if it's important (I doubt so), but so much for having more things to compare with each other... who knows, maybe we can find out the problem! |

RE: A-200 loses network connection on file transfer
I have been using the Popcorn A-200 for years. No problems with copying, except not getting speeds above 10MB/s
Until a week ago. Then I suffered the exact symptoms as OP. But just now I remembered that I recently changed the network mode of the A-200 from "10/100" to "auto". I set it back to 10/100 and copying works again as it has always done. |
