H.264 AVCHD supported format? ( PVR from hauppague)
Can the popcorn hour( any popcorn hour) support H.264 AVCHD video?

Is H264 the same thing as H.264 AVCHD or is the AVCHD mean its a format that the popcorn hour can't play.

I am looking at the specs of a Hauppague digital recorder device that records in " AVCHD" the specs say " H.264 AVCHD" to be exact.

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html

Just wondering if this would work on any popcorn hour before I considering purchasing it.

Thanks.

You can create disks in the AVCHD format.

I have mine use the .ts container, h.264 video and ac3 audio. Plays perfectly on the Popcorn units. I use TS Doctor for editing. I've had mine for a couple of years now.

C-200, A-110 both playing from a DIY Linux Raid 5 server.

Remuxes, Captures and Transcodes done on a desktop running;
Win7, Intel i7 hexacore processor with 24 GB ram, WD VR OS drive and a WD Black 2 TB data drive.

There are some test AVCHD folder files that I created in the DVD9 200 series test files. I did one with a menu and one without and both played fine.

There are a few different AVCHD folder outputs and some are propriatory adding in files that are not to spec in the AVCHD structure, so its very hard to say if a certain type will or wont play without a test file.

The HD-PVR does not directly create the AVCHD format. It gives you software to create it from it's outputed formats;
Quote:When recording, you'll have the option between these formats:

* .TS, which is a generic 'transport stream' compatible with many digital media players
* .M2TS, which is compatible with the Sony Playstation3
* .MP4, which is compatible with the XBox360

I don't want to get too tied up with technical jargon, I am just trying to see if you can record shows on this HD PVR then stream it to your popcorn hours( whatever the format happens to be)

I would rather buy a popcorn hour for every room in my house than lease a cable box from comcast for $ 8.5 a month.

As far as this thread goes and related to the Hauppauge HD-PVR, forget about AVCHD. The Hauppauge HD-PVR does not directly create that format.

It can create files using three different containers. .TS, .M2TS and .MP4

Within each of the containers, it will use H.264 for video and .AC3 or .AAC audio.

Most HD-PVR users select .AC3 for audio because it will then capture 5.1 if sourced.

The PCH units can play both the .TS and .M2TS files. I don't use .MP4, so I'm not sure.
