I know that the guys from Popcorn don't give any updates about the new releases of the firmware updates but the A200 isn't updated now for nearly a year (15 days to go..)
Please, is there anything to say about further releases of the firmware? (02-06-2012 09:00 PM)super_dirk Wrote: Uhm, it's now the 6th of February and still no new firmware.. Is the A2xx platform death? Last reaction I received was the introduction of a new product at the IFA in 2011. Popcorn A100 and A200 user.. |

Really dissapointed about the lack of firmware updates. Makes me regret the fact that in the end I decided to buy a Popcorn instead of the Boxee Box.

Have you read anything about the boxee box firmware they keep coming out and everyone keeps saying its making the box worse. Most people that i know that bought one have moved on from it. |

HI,
Well i came from an extreamer pro what a pile of crap. Bought a popcorn A210 and been very impressed at least i can play back HD audio perfectly now. I am quite upset over the firmware updates considering we are coming up to a year now. what is bugging me the most is iso/mkv with subtitles in always display even if you have them turned off in the settings, you always after to switch to another language then go back to off when the movie is playing for them to permanently keep off. Anyone else have this issue? |

If it always plays say teh english full track make sure you dont have a subtitle language selected under setup, then it will always try to play that track. |

Yep like the man above says, get yourself a small mkv sample with subtitles. Open it in MKVMerge and highlight the subtitle track. Look at the bottom where it says forced yes/no. Set that to Yes and the subs will display without any language setting.
For others who require subs all the time and not just for forced bits then setting the language in preferences is a requirement. Sometimes you'll find the odd encode that is released with the forced flag set to ON when the subtitles are general and not just forced. That's annoying but solved by remuxing and restting the forced flag as above. Yep good way to do it even quicker than a remux. Simply open MKVMerge, select File > Header Editor. Then select the MKV you want to edit in the next browser window that opens. Then highlight the subtitle track you want and expand its directory tree. Look for Forced Flag and change it YES. Then simply save and the header is edited without any need for a total file resave. Very quick and makes me even more of a MKV fan, coming from AVI.
MKVToolnix with its MKVMerge and Extract apps make working with MKV container so simple in comparison to AVI containers. I am stuck with the same network bugs for a year now. And from what I read I see a lot of positive feedback. |

I use makemkv and dvdfab never force the subtitles and also do not have a problem with avatar (navvi speaking parts ripped in iso, mkv not a chance gave up on that) |

The only time I have ever had subtitles appear is when they are flagged as forced. I do not have a subtitle language selected in either Preferences or BD/DVD settings, perhaps you do in one of the two places?
MKV is a godsend and so easy to work with in comparison to AVI. ISO are simply video_ts or BDMV/AVCHD wrapped into an ISO container. Having ISO files means that the player has to parse the information and unwrap the playlist and play instructions before starting playback. not something you really want to do with the likes of Bluray in particular with a hardware player and its cpu. Keep the load off wherever you can.
