Certain MKV files stutter when playing over a Samba share
I have an annoying problem with my A-110 that has been there for a long time (if not always). I'm following a few US tv series that are not for sale outside the US and not shown on any of my country's stations, so I'm currently getting them off the net. There are usually two HD versions available: 720p HDTV rips and 720p WEB-DL versions (I think these come from iTunes). The latter have much better picture quality and I prefer these.
I have a Linux server with a Samba share that I've mounted on my A-110 over my wireless N network and I have stuck a 4 GB USB stick in the A-110. The HDTV 720p tv rips play fine both from the server and from a USB key. The WEB-DL versions will play without problems from the USB key but not over the Samba share. In the last case, after one or two seconds, the playback stutters for a few seconds and then the sound disappears and the playback continues at very slow speed. As I'm able to copy an entire episode (~21 min) from my Samba share to my USB key using the A-110's copy function in approx. 4 minutes, I'm not convinced that this is a network bandwith issue. Have anyone else experienced similar issues and maybe found a solution? Is this a bug? I'm using the latest A-110 firmware but the situation has been the same in previous versions. |

RE: Certain MKV files stutter when playing over a Samba share
Well, if you can play locally from USB but not over network it sure sounds like a bandwidth/bitrate issue. But it does seem odd as usually you only run into that with high bitrate 1080p. You could try using an http server like myihome which has a bit more headroom.

RE: Certain MKV files stutter when playing over a Samba share
myihome made things a little better, now most of my files can be played over the network most of the time but not always. Is there any way to tune how much data the A-110 pre-buffers? I suspect that is the reason for the reason why the playback over Samba doesn't work. As previously stated, I can copy the entire file over the network in less than five minutes but not play it live although it has a ~20 minute play time.
