Bluray Disk ripper
Hey There

The Popcorn C-200 is the only one in my home with a Blu-ray drive, and i want a app maybe like the audio ripper, there can rip my Blu-ray / dvd movies to the internal harddrive, dont know if that is possible or allready made, but i cant see it in app market.

Or maybe anyone else have a workaround here, for ripping blu-ray / dvd movies from the internal Blu-ray drive in the C-200

And i dont know if any have the same thoughts, to do more with your C-200.

RE: Bluray Disk ripper
Even if somebody did make an app to do this;

1. App would require a subscription model meaning you have to pay the developer to keep the app relevant.

Content manufacturers change the way they prevent legitimate owners from backing up the discs they bought thru encryption so a ripping APP is only as good as it's most recent upgrade to break them. It's a cat and mouse game kinda like how Anti-Virus software companies operate.

2. Ripping still takes time when done traditionally via PCs. Putting it on a C200 would still entail tying up the box for ripping unable to do it's other function while the rip process is happening. If a PC can rip a retail BD in about 90 minutes, I am guessing it will take at least 270 minutes to do it with the C200's processor. I don't think users will accept that limitation.

A200 connected to 32" Samsung UA32C5000
C200 connected to Denon 1610 AVR and 42" LG 42LH50YR
Encore ENHGS-500 5 port Gigabit switch.

RE: Bluray Disk ripper
I see your point, and yes i think it is kind of cat against mouse, and yes i know it is some kind of encryption thing. could be nice to have thou, and let people decide if the want to use 270 min to rip the BD.

Or even better rip it to H.264 with selective subtitles and audio.

But guess with what you are saying it is more a wish than a acctual doing.

But i see no problem in the update part, the app marked allready have an update feature for the apps you have installed, so that could be used.

Nice to have discussed this, cause i think many is thinking the samething, hey the drive is there, let us use it.

If not for Blu-Ray then lets start with a DvD rip Smile

That would take days, or possibly weeks, to do with the processor in the C200.

C-200 + WD Scorpio Blue 500GB

I can't see an issue with doind DVD's as the decryptions keys used by Power DVD and WinDVD are freely avalible on the internet (this is slightly illegal mind you) - the likes of DVDDecoder use them.

And its not that processor intensive, so the PCH could do it.

It would be even better to write it into the firmware so it can be done in the background while watching somethng else (although this may push the processor a bit!)
