Videos stopping 1/2 way, slow navigation
Hi pplz,

Ive had my pch a200 for 12 months and all has been well

Just the last week weird things have started happening.

I have been copying data off the drive via samba to my W7 PC and suddenly the drive dissapears and i get file not found erros.

Im also recieving "cant copy file" errors in the form of I/O errors.

Finally im also watching tv shows and suddenly screen goes black i return to the movie page. Playing the file fails.

If i turn it off then on again it fixes all above problems nd the files are found and not corrupted, so it stops in different places at different times for my files...

Could this be a video/firmware/hard drive issue?

What are my next steps to finding a solution or things to look out for?

-PCH A200 + 2TB WDEARS internal - NTFS
-4GB micro usb - NMT Apps
-Netgear Stora 4TB (2 x 2TB WDEARX)
-Panasonic 42" Plasma
-YAMJ w/ Unique Black Glas.Heart

Hi, sorry to see that nobody replied to your post. Did you solved your problem? If yes how did you do? Did you try another internal drive?

I am interested in this topic because I have the same problem. For me I have noticed this problem with mkv files that I had downloaded via the popcorn torrent. And I don't think it's my hard drive as if download the same file on the pch internal drive but with my pc torrent client it then works (still have to test more). Would it be possible that high speed download is not well supported by the pch torrent client or ram?

I still have to test these issues more extensively as I always think I resolved it at some point until it happens again

Didnt you find a transmission fix for torrent corrupted downloads?
Transmission is the torrent client. It was picked as most private sites allow it and a lot of servers/seedboxes run it. It's tried and tested.

I thought it was fixed but it's not and yesterday something weird happened. Some mkv files which used to play correctly have now the same problems. And when you try to copy these files i get an i/o device error at some point so it might as well be my internal drive. I need to run some more tests like:
Format the drive on my pc and then retest it on the pch or try to download files to a usb drive with transmission. I am now on holiday away from my pch but i'll report back here when i am back and have tried these solutions. Hopefully these are just drive issues and not a bug or broken pch. When i got the drive i never formated it via my pc i just used the pch format, could that be the problem?

No the PCH should format it fine.

On speed of downloads I would cap at 1500kb/s, anymore and the UI slows down and you start to see delays in your remote commands.

What exactly are you seeing as the error message and when.

You aren't getting this are you:-

I have now reformatted the drive with the PCH and I will cap the speed to 1500 Kb/s. My torrents do go up to 2MB/s so hopefully that was the problem. That or the fact that I might have turned off PCH while some torrents were active

The error you mentioned wasn't the error I was getting by the way.

When I was trying to copy over these files that didn't work properly from PCH to a PC I would get this message from Windows "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".

So hopefully the reformat will solve everything, if it happens again, I guess I will need to replace that internal drive.. Sad

Just an update to tell you that after the reformat and limiting the torrent DL to 1500 KB/s I still had the same problem.

I read somewhere that i should limitate it to 1300 KB/s which I did and so far so good!!!!

I still had a problem and everything points to the HD. In the meantime I got a NAS. So I put this drive in the NAS and even though my NAS reports the SMART status of this drive as "Abnormal" and the Raw Read Error Rate as "Failing now"everything playing fine with the popcorn from the NAS. But there is definitely something wrong with this drive. I also notice whenever i used it for the popcorn, this drive was really really hot.

Chris I would like to edit the wiki HD compatibility list and change the opinion for Samsung F2 HD103SI EcoGreen. But I am unsure if I should do that as it could be just a one off faulty drive

It sounds like the HDD is faulty and I don't think that we should change the WIKI HDD for faulty HDD's, as users are looking for performance/compatibility of a functioning HDD not a faulty one.

If there are any other owners of the same HDD that have problems with it from the get go then please chime in.
