Streaming HD MKVs from PCH A-210 is Choppy on Wifi
Hello, I have been trying to figure out how I can stream my HD MKV's (5 to 20 GB Blu-Ray Rips) from my PCH's internal and external drives to my computer and my LG Network Players. I can get my computer & LG's to connect to my PCH and start playing the movies but the playback is very choppy and unwatchable. Right now all devices are connected through wi-fi and I dont have the ability to run a Cat5/6. Right now I'm at the mercy of a 2WIRE 3801HGV Router that AT&T Uverse installed. Can someone please tell me what I can do so I can stream with no problems?

if cat5 is not an option your other solution is homeplugs or moca. wifi cannot sustain the needed bandwidth

RE: Streaming HD MKVs from PCH A-210 is Choppy on Wifi
I have AT&T U-Verse in every room hooked up via Coax. All of the U-Verse STBs (set top boxes / receivers) have ethernet ports. Since U-Verse is basically already running a MoCA set up shouldn't I be able to run a Cat6 from the U-Verse STB ethernet port to my PCH in my theatre for a wired connection? And in my living room and bedroom run a Cat6 from my other U-Verse STB's to my LG Networked Blu-Ray players for a wired connection? If this works, would I be able to stream 1080p at this point?

Im not to familiar with uverse and how its runs HPNA its a little different then MoCA. But if the network ports are active on the stb then yes it should work that way and be able to stream 1080p I dont know the full specs of HPNA though to really confirm.

RE: Streaming HD MKVs from PCH A-210 is Choppy on Wifi
Well I got home today and plugged in a Cat6 cable from my U-Verse box to my PCH and it connected to the network on a Wired Auto setting. I went downstairs and ran the same setup to my LG Bluray Player and it connected no problem. The LG picked up my PCH as a NAS so I tried a few movies. It seems like the begining of all movies start off playing fine and then about 30 seconds into the larger file size movies the sound starts to stutter or stop altogether. If I pause the playback for a few seconds and press play the sound catches up again for a bit and then the sound starts to stutter again. Its like it is buffing.......any suggestions?

I did...Well actually it was already set to that. Is there something else I could try? I have U-Verse Max Plus internet which is what the recommend for streaming Movies at 18 Mbps. I'm using Cat6 cables. Its playing the 720p files fine but the 1080p files are stuttering bad. Are there any test I could or do you think it could be b/c I'm streaming to a LG instead of another PCH? I'm pretty desperate to get this to work.

Just some more info....The LG connects as DLNA? And the PCH shows up as a UPnP AV server? Does that sound right?

Not sure if it works but maybe you can compress the Blu-ray to smaller file.

Yes, if you have the UPnP server turned on, it's one of the NMT apps. You can see in "Settings" under "NMT applications" which apps are on or off.

Can you copy a movie both to and from the PCH with a PC, and time the transfer. Then you can calculate the transfer speed so you have some figures.

I'm not at all familiar with the U-verse setup. Are the outlets connected to a switch somewhere in your house?

RE: Streaming HD MKVs from PCH A-210 is Choppy on Wifi
I'm watching a 1080p MKV at the moment streamed via wired, the audio alone is 4Mb/s and the video is 32.4Mb/s. That without subtitles makes over 36Mb/s but peaks will take it over the 50Mb/s in places. 18Mb/s is not a lot when you are talking 1080p.

If you have nothing but wifi or powerline then try with NFS as it outperforms SMB when using these methods.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

Hey Chris57 I trying to stream 1080p from my Qnap TS-199II that has a 1GB connection with my Linksys E4200 to my PCH-210 that is connected to the Linksys with a 10/100 connection. All connections are through CAT5 cable. I cannot switch the PCH-210 to automatic Network connection as it won't get an IP from the linksys so I'm stuck on 10/100... Still the images stutters after a few seconds and audio stops... I think I also have a buffer problem... do you have any thoughts on this?

Don't stream from the samba share. Stream from the upnp service, or a dlna server like mediatomb. I'm able to play HD mkv over wifi with that on my LG bluray player.

Hey Blankser thnx for the feedback I'll try it out... although I'm not streaming through samba... using the NFS shares which should have a better performance...still no luck though...

Yes I found out wat my problem was... I switched the network mode from the NAS back from 1Gb to 100mbit. Which means that both popcorn a-210 and my NAS where on 100mbit this resulted in a seamless stream playback through NFS
