Oversight or YAMJ?
Hi,
I'm using YAMJ right now. I'm thinking about using oversight instead. The reason is that Oversight runs on the pch and (from what I've read) is much easier in use. I'm interested in other users opinions before I make my decision. So, do not hestitate to give me feedback on the question: Why Oversight in stead of YAMJ? Thanks in advance. I'd give it a go and see what you think.. it's very very simple to set up.

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Just give oversight a try for a few weeks,
once setup you don't have to think about anything. My PCH-A110 Stats | Samsung LE32A656 | Logitech Z-2300 | Harmony One Oversight | |

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Yeah, I was thinking of just installing it. But I put so much effort in YAMJ already to get everything nicely displayed on screen adn stuff.
So I was wondering what other users think of it. Friends just keep you away from TV. PCH A-110 NetGear Readynas RND4000 (8TB) |

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Well every now and again, this discussion returns so you might want to read some older topics on this.
The arguments remain the same as before: Oversight has less eye candy, but needs less looking after where adding recently downloaded movies and tv-shows are concerned. So ease of use vs eye-candy, that's the choice you need to make. Ok, point taken and basically I knew this already (also from other posts). But, was hoping for some more compelling answers.
But hey, thanks for the info. Will just install it and make I choice afterwards (runnig both the same time). Friends just keep you away from TV. PCH A-110 NetGear Readynas RND4000 (8TB) |

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Be good to get some feedback from a happy yamj user. I couldn't give any more of a detailed for or against coz I couldn't get yamj to work! So I could only sing the praises of oversight which isn't what you wanted... But maybe others out there would benefit from your comparison once you had a few days trying it out?

I chose Oversight because it was the only (finished) jukebox, that worked from the internal hdd for the A100. Yamj may have a lot more functions at the moment (though lordy is doing his best to help Oversight along), and looks a lot nicer. But the fact I can start a download in NZBget and, turn off my laptop, knowing all will be taken care off outweighs it all. ![]() And in the near future (hopefully) Sickbeard and Couchpotato will both be succesfully ported to the A100 and I will be able to be even more lazy ;P PCH-A100 (FW 01-17-100317-15-POP-402-000) (00-17-091216-15-POP-402 NMT Apps) Philips 28PW9611/01 PAL SD, connected with Composite Old skool

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
When you belly up at your local beerhall, what jukebox in the corner do you drop your quarters into to try and find the perfect song that will allow that cold brew to wash away another pointless work day .... the one with all the pictures and easy to view albums.
I could live with either jukebox but I drop my quarters into YAMJ. 20 fl.oz. ice cold 'Waylon Jennings' Mike |

No need for Oversight... Ok, this are my findings. Remember that this is what I think of both programs and does not reflect the opinion of other users (who might disagree with me). I'm going to stick with YAMJ without any GUI/Manager. This works way easier that Oversight or YAMJ with some GUI/Manager. I've found out that Oversight isn't an out-of-thebox install and run. At the first run it did not index any of my movies located on my nas. When Oversight is installed I still have to tweak and tune as much (or even more) as when I use YAMJ. Also, running YAMJ with YAYman gives me more discomfort. I've to tune more to get it to work. So, just a plane install of YAMJ (and java and mediainfo), adjust the library.xml and voila. The Job is done, works like a charm and has a very nice interface. My only hope is that YAMJ is being ported to the PCH, so I don't need the locak pc anymore. Yes, but what I meant with "all is taken care of" is that when NZBget is done dowloading, the jukebox gets updated with the new download automatically. So I won't have to update the jukebox by my laptop. And naturally you need to setup any application you will start to use, it can't "smell" your ideal settings ![]() I don't know if you're a x200 user, but if you are I think it would be safer bet to wait for NMJ to evolve to your liking than for YAMJ to be ported

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Have to agree that having something that works with Feedtime/NZBget and does it without me doing a thing is ideal.. and it's on the PCH so no need for remote database for my library is perfect solution
I couldnt get YAMJ to work but I soon realised I'd be way to lazy to keep up with all the 'housework' of maintaining the library especially with a library as changable as mine... I don't really keep anything other than a few movies (08-12-2011 09:55 AM)hilgie Wrote:(08-11-2011 07:52 PM)Cherek Wrote: But the fact I can start a download in NZBget and, turn off my laptop, knowing all will be taken care off outweighs it all. Danny is yours a relatively static library? How often does it need updating? |

RE: Oversight or YAMJ?
Very dynamic must say. Currently 500+ movies and about 20 TV shows and still growing. Have a Readynas 8 TB attached.
But with YAMJ you just have to make it work one time good and the updates take about 1 - 2 mins every time (update twice a month). Friends just keep you away from TV. PCH A-110 NetGear Readynas RND4000 (8TB) |

Well, you don't need your jukebox up to date to watch a video right? Stuff I add I first watch from the nmt interface (not from the jukebox). But if you want all your new content directly shown in your jukebox Oversight is the better pick I guess. Friends just keep you away from TV. PCH A-110 NetGear Readynas RND4000 (8TB) |
