video stutters on Samsung TV
I have a new Samsung UB55d8000 TV and it plays videos smoothly from a USB flash drive inserted in the TV. When the Popcorn Hour is connected to an HDMI input and the same files will begin to stutter when there is a lot of rapid change in the scene (like panning). At first I thought it was a network issue but playing the same files from the same flash drive inserted into the PCH exhibits the same stuttering. So no network connection is involved. This problem did not occur on my previous Toshiba LCD TV with PCH. What is worse is that the same thing happens with a Western Digital media player. The only way to get smooth play is to use the USB drive in one of the USB inputs in the TV and play from there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? |

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
I think you have to put it on hdmi3 input and say to tv that the source is PC. I had the same problem with an older samsung model and this is how I solved it.

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
you can "name" what type of source is the incoming hdmi signal. In my tv you select source (hdmi3) then press "tools" and then "edit name" or something like that from the pop up menu. Then you select PC. Hope it helps...

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
You are running the wrong fps speed. What you are describing sounds like judder. What is your video settings in the pch menu

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
What halfelite said, I've got the 46D7000 and it has no issues regarding judder like you describe. Most likely, you're playing 50Hz content at 24Hz or 24Hz content at 50/60Hz. Make sure framesync is enabled on the PCH but you will find occasionally that the PCH doesn't detect the source framerate correctly in which case you might have to set the video mode to match the source.

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
Yes, judder is the best description. Last week I tried changing the frame sync.. it was set to "auto". Changing it to other settings seemed to have little effect if any on the judder. When I changed the input to HDMI 2 that did seem to improve things a bit. Now the judder is only noticeable during extreme image panning. However it is too soon to say as I need to look at more videos to come up to a conclusion. Judder is totally absent from any file played with the built-in media player of the Samsung from a USB drive inserted into the TV. I have been totally unable to use any server software (Serviio, Vuze, etc) on the iMac that will stream to the TV because it disconnects within seconds.

What is your video settings in the pch menu Frame sync can not be set to any of the PAL modes or the Samsung responds with video mode not supported. So the only modes available are "auto" and "NTSC/24p". Neither has any effect on judder from a 24 fps file. So there seems to be only one way to completely eliminate judder: Remove the NMT and play the file using the built in media player. The source for the media player can be a stream over a network (from Vuze or Serviio for example) or a USB drive attached to the TV's USB input. I note that the advanced video settings is grayed out from video coming in from HDMI inputs. The same 25 fps source coming in from a USB flash drive or network does NOT have the advanced video settings grayed. So the bottom line seems to be that Samsung expects only 60/30 fps sources via the 4 HDMI inputs. The built in video player is designed to provide smooth play of all types of codecs and European frame rates (25fps). However the built-in video player is unbelievably primitive compared to the NMT. |

RE: video stutters on Samsung TV
You will never completely eliminate judder unless you do not use any PAL files. 25fps files need to be played at PAL resolutions to not have judder.
Set your player : Video Output: 1080p/60 Frameratesync: 24p/NTSC If its 1920x1080pixels and has 24p. Use the fps test files to use various fps files to check that only PAL files judder. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

But this does not explain why there is no noticeable judder when using Samsung's built in crappy media player. No judder with files on a USB stick or files streamed over the network from the VUZE DLNA server. |

I registered to this forum only to say THANKS!!! I've been searching for a solution for the stuttering issue for months now, blaming the TV, cable and mediacenter in random order, thinking I would never know the source of it. Then I ran into this thread and its fixed!!! I am about to send you flowers and beer! Thanks! Besided that, Samsung still sucks for putting features for disabling all processing tools in the name of a source! |
