New UI for 200er Series, same as A-300 UI?!

I'm voting YES for the following reasons:

1. The existing UI looked tired and out of date when the C200 was originally released. THAT WAS TWO YEARS AGO!
2. A much, much higher WAF out of the box!
3. Most average users want things to look as good as possible with as little effort on their part as possible. YAMJ and everything are great but most "normal" people don't want to have to invest time maintaining stuff like that.
4. The 200 series is nearing end of life anyway. The community effort will naturally start to move on as newer platforms come out. All a flash UI will do is accelerate the process.
5. Sharing as much as possible with PCH devices reduces costs for Syabas and increases the likelihood of future updates for a "legacy" product
6. The jarring transision between flash Apps and the stock UI will be a thing of the past.

I like the idea above where Syabas may drop their support for Gaya and leave it up to the community to continue possible development, e.g. open the Gaya source!

But I fear Sigma is involved in making that come true to a full extent - and that they may not even consider it Please do correct me if I'm wrong!


So, where can I get a open & free development environment for Flash?
The NMT-specific Flash SDK is/will be available upon registration, AFAIK, similar to what's available for Popbox?

As for an IDE, Adobe Flex+FlashDevelop seems to work for Windows, Flex+Eclipse for Linux & Macs, but I haven't really digged into this yet. Somebody who can share more info?

I'm still on the 110-series, but considering to upgrade to the 200-series. However, if the 200-series switches to a flash based UI, I won't move to the 200-series as my main use of the PCH is SwissCenter which currently and for the time being incompatible with the new UI.

In other words, I voted against the proposal.

I thought about it and ended up voting YES as well. My biggest possible gripe is that llink won't work, but I hope lundman might find a way around that. I'm currently using YAMJ with Aeon, but I've been looking to switch to Eversion in the future anyway, I was just waiting for it to develop a little further. This will force me to swap sooner, but I'm fine with that.

As it currently is, the flash stuff is very poorly integrated in the old UI. It looks half-done and is slow. I'm generally function over aesthetics, but from what I've seen the new UI seems very appealing in many ways. I also love the colour scheme. Blue, be gone!

I hope we get a video showcasing the UI running on the 200 series though. I'm just wondering how much slower it actually is.

Mayby the biggest hurdle, for promo team (with new UI) ,will be the warning of, probably irreverseability when updated (x-200) ?

I'm under the assumption that if something like Eversion still works, then llink and YAMJ served as backend still works too?

But stock llink and Swisscenter, and all other projects and apps using a html GUI over Gaya (including a lot of stuff released in CSI and vaidyasr's opkg service, and then some), will need a Flash skin front end. And that may require some work to develop. I don't really know how big of a task that is; Accident, Pernod and Lundman should hopefully have a much better idea.

It's a major task, but I'm keen to move in that direction, though could be awhile before I find the time to do so. Also hoping accident can help out with his Eversion experience.

I voted Yes because I think is better to have 200 and 300 with some commonalities due to falsh UI even if 200 will continue to have a reduced capability. I mean, in the future the developers will focus their activity on 300 and 200's owners will have more chances to have new apps also compatible with 200 (except for firmware/hardware limitation).

I can't imagine use and enjoy my box without index.htm and Aeon (I don't even see the current Gui because of it!)

I like a lot the flexibility of view my html jukebox in ANY browser.

Ps: I know it's not about NMJ, but just for the records: NMJ is the worst software I ever used and it is in flash.

Well if YAMJ + Eversion would still work then its a YES for me. If the new UI turns out to be a disappointment me then I could always use Eversion as I do now. Let's just hope that the new UI will be much faster when it comes to browse music.

Perhaps a dud question, but would it be possible to replace the index.htm with an Actionscript launcher file, to achieve a similar functionality?

I did not vote (yet).
I read a lot of pro and cons, but I have no preference.

If I was Syabas (which I'm not) I would wait at least 1/2 year before implementing it.
By that time:

1) The community would have finished new flash based apps, to replace the old html based.
2) many users will own the A300 next to the 200 series (I know I will) and would like to use the same UI.

So, maybe a third option could be added to the poll:

3. Yes, but wait 6 months to give the community time to develop alternatives for their add-ons.

Everything is possible with the action script... But the point is if Syabas would allow the community to "inject" custimized scripts into the flash UI.

For sure the replacement for index.htm can be done somehow if Syabas decides to do it.
