RE: NMJ library loading time
Yep, I haven't personally tested with a local library.
But I really don't understand why it's so slow with a network library and a local database, it should be the opposite ![]() Anyway I now have a setting that suits me ~ EDIT : would be better with subfolder

RE: NMJ library loading time
i need to test that also, about performance no it should not be the opposite, think about it, in this case were the media is located on a NAS and the db is on the local hdd it need to handle two sources at same time, so it load from local hdd but also need to access the networkshare, so in my eyes it will be more a 50% performance drop, if the nmj is on the source were the files are located then it just need to handle that one source, so this will always be the fastest way.
One question do you use local coverart/fanart/nfo?? or did you aggregate everything from our cloud using NMJ? Regards, Werner ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Syabas Technology Inc. DBA Popcornhour |

RE: NMJ library loading time
You're probably right, but my experience with the database, the more the media has an access time lower and high rates, the higher the performance is good
But yes, there are two ressources to handle.Yes I have a lot of old (Popbox V8 and WD Live TV) local coverart/fanart/nfo But now NMJ load in under 4 secondes (still need to test with NFS).

RE: NMJ library loading time
thats no problem, why i asked about local stuff is, because nmj will use them and won't store them in the nmj database folder, so this is the next thing where my idea with slowdown comes in, so it need to load the db on your local hdd and at the same time also need to load the coverart and fanart which is stored on your nas, and there is the issue which for sure will slowdown the loading.
So next thing to test would be to use no local coverart/fanarz and get everything from our cloud, then all the files get stored inside the nmj folder which will be then the local hdd, maybe then the loading is fast because it just need to load the stuff from one source then. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Syabas Technology Inc. RE: NMJ library loading time
A little of topic here but i'll share my NMJ v2 experience so far:
NMJ still nearly unusable for me. I store almost everything in ISO containers, because it makes it incredibly easy to rip out indiviual episodes and main movies while keeping them in their structure. No encoding, etc. Well .ISOs take forever to scan, just like on NMJ v1. I set up a test bed of "King of the Hill" which contains 125 ISOs and 133 AVIs. I'm estimating about 2-3 ISO per minute. At this rate, it would take days to scan my entire 49TB server, while YAMJ can do a fresh rebuild of it in about 40 minutes since I have local art for everything (about 2 hours before I had local art stored). I have to note though, my YAMJ setup has a i7 920 @ 4.4GHz, 6GB of DDR3 2000, and 2x 1TB Blacks in Raid 0. So I expect it to be incredibly faster than NMJ v2, however 2 hours versus days? Maybe this is normal and i'm just use to running YAMJ on a fast computer. This isn't a big deal to me... because i'm still going to be using YAMJ/Eversion for the sheer customization, but I would have liked to give NMJ v2 a test run. Besides this, the A300 is great... but for NMJ users expecting "major" NMJ optimizations, i'm just not seeing it.

RE: NMJ library loading time
hey werner
I've just got my new A-300 and I'm pretty excited with it so far. I just don't like the performance of the NMJ interface. I have no problems to scan my 400 movies and lots of tv shows off my NAS, but it's just a pain to use it later on over my network (wired). Is there a way to install the database on an internal disk or usb drive? If there is no way yet, would you please implement this option in a future release? I've got the impression that many users would like to have this possibility. Thanks! |

RE: NMJ library loading time
You can but from my experience the performance is worse.

RE: NMJ library loading time
I figured it out after reading another thread....
you just need to install an internal drive and set permissions of your NAS sources to read only. after that the a300 writes the database to the local disk automatically. I've installed a 32GB SSD and now it runs like it should in my opinion

RE: NMJ library loading time
So if I install a local SSD, I can store all of the NMJ on the SSD, so that it comes up faster?

RE: NMJ library loading time
Can someone test with a lot of movies on a network share and the db stored on an internal SSD drive please?
