NEVER choose AUTO video resolution - suggested settings
This post is primarily aimed at those who do not have an AVR (audio Visual Receiver) and are using the NMT to upscale and select the correct output based on the video fps (frames per second).

To ensure that you get the correct Aspect Ratio on playback & the best video output based on your TV specification and the file fps NEVER select Auto in Settings > Video/Audio Preferences > Video Output.

Using Auto will cause more HDMI re-syncs and should only be used to Recover your HDMI signal if you set your players output to one your TV cannot display. Using Auto means that as soon as the NMT finds a resoution that your TV can display at it will use that output, which may not always be the best output for your equipment.

Video Output
You should always set your Video Output to match the best video output specification of your TV.

Frameratesync
You should set your options for all resolutions that your TV can display. So if its a new HDTV with 24p and bought in USA it will have both NTSC (60p) and 24p, so slected these in settings. If its bought outside of USA it will also have PAL, so set 24p/PAL(50p)/NTSC(60p)

For those who are lucky enough to have other options, such as 24p, always choose the one that matches your source.

Here's an interesting article, a forum member pointed to recently, on aspect ratio and why those black bars don't disappear:-
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/764

And a more recent EnGadget article:-
http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/02/19/hd-...-on-hdtvs/

The 300 series is different to the 100 and 200, it requires you to select all your TV input options in Frameratesync. It does not leave the signal on PAL if you have selected a PAL Video Output. If you do not have PAL available in Frameratesync then PAL will be played back at NTSC.

Here are the suggested settings for some TV types:-

European 1080p (1920x1080pixels) TV that has 24p/TruCinema
- Video Output: 1080p/24p or 1080p/50
- FramerateSync: 24p/NTSC/PAL

European 720p/1080i (1366x768pixels) TV
- Video Output: 720p/50 or 1080i/50 depending on your preference
- FramerateSync: PAL/NTSC

USA 1080p (1920x1080pixels) TV that has 24p/TruCinema
- Video Output: 1080p/24 or 1080p/60
- FramerateSync: 24p/NTSC

USA 720p/1080i (1366x768pixels) TV
- Video Output: 720p/60 or 1080i/60 depending on your preference
- FramerateSync: OFF

The 300 series is different to the 100 and 200, in that it requires you to select all options in Frameratesync as it does not leave the video signal on PAL if you do not have PAL available in Frameratesync.

To test your Video Output and your Frameratesync settings use these TEST FILES and experiment until you have no stutter/judder of the white line as it travels across the screen from left/right and back. Only those whose TV can output at 24p will be able to do this for all of the test files.

For a more detailed read on why having the wrong Video Output and Frameratesync settings will cause playback problems read this WIKI Article.
