no playback, just spinning circle
Hi All,

Having just replaced my a-110 with a shiny new a-300, I've been very disappointed with the number of movies that fail to play (but work perfectly on my a-110).

When I select the movie to play and press enter, I get the spinning circle in the middle of the screen as if the video is buffering but the video never actually starts playing. I've left the spinning circle up for over 10 minutes with no luck.

I can, at any time, press STOP and return to the file listing so the a-300 has not hung at all. I have been able to immediately select another video which starts playing after buffering for 2-3 seconds like normal. If I stop and try to play the failed movie from earlier then I still get the spinning circle just sitting there.

If I plug my a-110 in, the same video that fails to play on my a-300 starts up first go on my a-110.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I've checked for firmware updates, but it is already running the latest.

RE: no playback, just spinning circle
MediaInfo data on a few of those movies might give us some insight on what the problem is.
It could be some non-standard format...

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10
13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: no playback, just spinning circle
Let me take a stab in the dark and say they are tv episodes by a certain group if so the bug has been reported.

Hi,

I will gather this info when I get home tonight.

Given the a-110 plays it fine, I'd be very surprised if it came down to this.

The issue occurs with TV episodes from a variety of groups, as well as movies by yet other groups that I have had for years. Some of the movies I have even ripped myself from DVD's I own. All play successfully on my old a-110.

I would be interesting to read more about the bug you describe however, do you have a link to the bug report?

RE: no playback, just spinning circle
I'd be more interested in seeing some information about the files. You post does not really help as you have no details of any of the files that dont play.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

Thank you for the follow up, it is most appreciated. Is there a bug id# or something I can follow to track the progress of a fix?

Cheers,

RE: no playback, just spinning circle
Tells us nothing I'm afraid. You have to be specific or how do you expect someone to find the problem, plus you have to be using a decent file in the first place, which the ASAP releases are not. However the ASAP issue of introducing an extra bit in the header has been reported and fixed.

Multiple people having the same issues and specific file information posted...can’t get much more specific?

I am having to play most tv shows through my ps3 now with the transcode software as the A300 barely plays anything. i.e. sits on a turning circle thing

Really disappointed after selling my A100 and supposedly upgrading to the A300.
