SACD ripping to ISO
Anybody else following this subject? Anybody else doing it?

It involves a PS3 that had/has SACD compatibilty and system software that has not been advanced past 3.55. Here is more information on it.

The SACD-Ripper will output ISO, which is recommended to save wear and tear on the PS3, or DSDIFF. From the ISO, one can extract the songs in DSDIFF format with the accompanying SACD extract app on a PC.

From there it gets a bit dodgy. If you have a compatible DAC, playing the DSDIFF files is doable. And there are solutions that involve an HTPC. But for anyone, like me, looking for a complete solution, the discussed DSDIFF compatibility to Music Player Daemon is exciting.

Indeed, my motivation in posting this thread is to generate some buzz and offer encouragement for the people working on it. Wink

Any questions?

RE: SACD ripping to ISO
I recently converted .dff files (2.0 channels) to flac and wav using audiogate. Sound quality was great.
However Audiogate does not have the capability to convert 5.0 channels to flac/ wav or any other formats.

Unable to convert .2CH and .MCH formats

I have some ISOs of SACDs which are unable to be extracted.

Any suggestions?

RE: SACD ripping to ISO
There is some disagreement discussion elsewhere on this. Weiss Saracon has some proponents and detractors. There is a Philips (of CD fame) app, but it was reported that it is one song at a time. I am here cheering on the MPD people to implement DSDIFF support because I am a bit frustrated with the apps available for conversion.

In case you want to search -

RE: SACD ripping to ISO
No listening comparisons yet - of FLACs to original media ... or of the FLACs comparing the two different workflows below, but here is what I found for elspsed time, files sizes and CPU usage. (Intel Core i7-920, 12GB DDR3-1600, Windows 7 64-bit)

4.87GB ISO - 13 TRACKS - ALBUM RUNTIME 52:14

SACD-Extract (ISO to DFF) - 10:25
RESULTING DFF FILES - 6.60GB

Philips Audio Format Converter (DFF to AIF)
SETUP 13 TRACKS - 8:00
CONVERT TRACKS - 9:00
CPU USAGE - ALL FOUR CORES USED - 40%-60% DURING PROCESSING ONLY
AND BURSTS 75%-95% DURING READ/WRITE, LOAD RELATIVELY BALANCED
RESULTING AIF FILES - 9.90GB

foobar2000 (AIF to FLAC)
SETUP - NEGLIGIBLE
CONVERT - 8:20
CPU USAGE - ALL FOUR CORES USED - 1%-30%, NO BURSTS W/CONSTANT READ/WRITE, LOAD RANDOMLY UNBALANCED
RESULTING FLAC FILES - 7.19GB

-----------------------
Saracon (DFF to FLAC)
SETUP - 2:00
CONVERT - 39:00
CPU USAGE - ALL FOUR CORES USED - 35%-85% (MOSTLY 40%-60%), NO BURSTS W/CONSTANT READ/WRITE, LOAD RANDOMLY BALANCED
RESULTING FLAC FILES - 7.12GB
