Needed functionalities :
- GUI (Flash) on the PCH
- User friendly Remote GUI for use without tv on (running on most plateforms like Windows, Linux, IOS, Android, iPhone/iPad...)
- Easy playlist creation
...(add your own here)...

Possible solutions :
- MPD (with work to do on the output side and Flash GUI)
- uPNP => lundman, please express your point of view Wink
...(add your own here)...

Please give your ideas and if possible, technical solutions!

I would like a real decent audioplayer wich has the GUI and possibilities like Mediamonkey or Winamp. Functionalities like the abbility to start (random and/or seqential) playing songs, folders or complete foldertrees just by selecting the place in the tree.

I don't need a songdatabase that has to be scanned and filled first. The metadata in the file can be looked up during playing the song or folder and then put into the database. It's a easy way to show file information on the fly and gradually filling the database.

This can be done with MPD clients.
GMPC for instance, you can browse your database by folder tree and add any level of the tree to the queue:

But yes, mpd needs to create a database first...

That would make it very difficult for an external device to remotely start/stop/queue songs... But the MPD database is very quick to create and update. Nothing like the NMJ Smile

I would support this idea and have already asked for a port of Squeezeplay for the NMTs. Unfortunately, vaidyasr replied that this would require an X server or something similar for the GUI, which isn't compatible with the Gaya or Flash interfaces the NMTs use.

The thing is you don't need a GUI, who needs their TV on when all you are doing is using your 'ears'? There are umpteen Apps for most smartphones and tablets that would take care of that.

As long as Squeezeserver sees the PCH as another Squeezebox, I am a happy bunny Cool

Right, but this requires altering the sourcecode, I guess. I'm sure vaidyasr wants to avoid this. However, feel free so suggest it here.

Media Player: Popcorn Hour C-200 (with Samsung SpinPoint HM500JI, Lite-On iHOS104-37 and Alpha WMP-ND02 WLAN-Module)
TV: Grundig Vivance 32 LXW 82-6710 REF
Receiver: Topfield 5000 PVRt (with 160 GB HD)
Sound: LG FB162-DOU
NAS: Netgear ReadyNAS NVX RNDX400E

Thanx Grael

Where can I find MPD clients? I'll have a look if this is what I need.

UPDATE
MPD installed and working with GMPC, MPad and MPod

I only have to find a way to let it start automatically after a reboot of the A300.

It is an absolutely amazing player. I use the app to control it and it is doing exactly what I was looking for:

The phone gets all the library, no need to built it up it everytime. easy to add songs
Start stop volume etc... run smooth.
AND one thing: I does not need to stream via the phone, so no battery drain. I can even just walk out of the WIFI range and the player goes on.

So the only thing I'd like to have is to choose the output. Because for example my wife is watching a movie on the PCH and I want to listen to music while cookingconfused...
Choose where to play: For example upnp send to devices (no battery problems, since the PCH itself sends to upnp devices and not the phone).

just my idea... cheers

Can you show me your config of MPoD and C200? I am stuck here:

thanks!

RE: For a decent audio player on the PCH
Hi There, I put out this old thread just to kown which is the state of the art at present day.

The idea is using the pch a-200 as a music player linked to stereo Hi-fi, given the a-200 as rendering device with music files on it, drived by a remote application on android phone with ability to make playlist on the fly, play an entire folder and browse the music archive.

thanks a lot
