[Bug] External disk stop working after deleting or renaming file!

External disk sometimes stop working after deleting or renaming file. It needs do be connected to computer and do CHKDSK to fix problem. After that disk is ok. 2TB WD Elemental is connected to rear USB port of my PHC A200. It is formatted in NFTS. No errors found on the disk. Never have problem with writing on it or playing from it. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Some time ago i got identical problem with 120gb IDE disk (NTFS) attached trough ide to usb converter. I was thinking it may be because it contained large number of small files, not only media files. I tried to delete directories trough network from PC and got some damaged and cross linked files and directories. My guess was it may be caused by large file count and not enough memory on PCH C200. After that i never used PCH to modify disk content.

That might be a reason. I have 16000 photos and NMJ data base with thumbnails for photos. That is lot of files. I don’t know if changing NTFS to EXT3 file system could fix things because EXT3 is Linux file system?

Are you using the Torrent or Usenet apps to download to the hdd at the same time as you delete/rename files?
I had the same problem, but somehow it got better. I think what fixed it is that I make sure there is no other application accessing the hdd while I handle the files.

No other app is running accept PHC UI and NMJ. Sometimes I use internet radio. But I don’t remember that radio was working while I deleted or renamed files. As charly sad also deleting over the network can damage files. I will take more attention to other program (NMJ and internet radio) running in the background. This problem never appeared when writing to disk. I can even play from that disk, have NMJ active and copy to that disk at the same time and never have problem with that.

I have the same problem quite frequently actually,and is has nothing to do with large number of files,as mine only contain media either dvd or hd mkv´s. It usually happens if i have to delete a lot,like tv episodes,but more often than not, it seems pch just hangs during delete,and then only way to fix it is reboot pch,and connect external hdd to pc to run chkdsk to fix the problem.

I have learned however that problem is MUCH more likely to appear if you have stuff accessing the same drive simultaniously,for example if i forget i am copying/moving files from my pc to the pch´s drives,and try and delete a file problem will occur guarenteed.

You are right. It is happening often when disk is maybe playing and I am trying to erase files over the net. But it is not always like that. Also it happens when I try to erase more files at ones. And if I try to rename file. And that is only one file! It only happens on my usb connected drive, not on share.
I am not aware if Syabas is aware of this problem?
