RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
Back on topic please, playback issues belong in a different thread than this one.
Be advised that an issue on one specific device is not per definition a generic issue on all devices. If an issue is generic you can safely assume that all on this forum would be discussing it..... but in the right area of this forum. any further off topic discussion will be removed. RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I think it's a daring gamble to set the price so high. Current owners will likely think the added performance is not worth the big pricetag and will wait for the next generation. New buyers will compare between competing devices and find a Dune with included BR-drive for the same or less money.
I suspect the C-300 will drop in price quickly when the few people that want to buy it no-matter what have done so. Or at least I'm hoping so

RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I am a touch surprised that for their premium product Syabas didn't wait for a chip capable of 3D Bluray.
For me there is nothing new, the C200 (and A200) I have already play everything I want them to with the exception of 3D Bluray. If I was to purchase a new device (kids might get an upgrade at some point), then I would probably wait for the 400 series. I honestly believe they need to work very hard on NMJ to make the Popcornhour range strong in the market. RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I ordered the C300 this morning and I received an email that it will be sent tomorrow.
I ordered it from a local webshop with good reputation, so I guess I will have it next monday. Let's see if the faith I still have in Syabas is not in vain. These are my expectations: I will receive an updated C200 of which I know that some of the issues cannot be solved by FW updates because they are hardware related. I think the gigabit issue is the main stability problem. Also I expect more from the streamlined SDK that this unit uses. I hope for the C200 owners that Syabas will have the courage to implement it also on the 200 series. And of course I will benefit from the higher speed, though that is not my biggest concern. And I don't expect it to be bugfree. That is not realistic in this stage. |

RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I'll be interested to find out how this machine performs in the wild.
I already have an A-110 and two C-200's. I was thinking about upgrading the A-110, and based on what I've seen so far I might just get a third C-200. Maybe I'm just lucky but both my C-200's play everything I throw at them and the only time I can remember them crashing is when playing corrupt files. (A re-rip fixed the problem.) The lack of 3D on the C-300 doesn't concern me, as I have no 3D-capable displays (and no budget for one, anyway.) Nice to know I don't have to worry about Cinavia. |

RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I have to agree with some. It's not much of an upgrade. In fact I got more complaints about it than I have had about any popcorn hour device.
Hardware wise, Yeah it's slightly faster, definately not the the 8910 we were hoping for but that can be live with. the look of the case though I hate, I hate that case, it's the ugliest thing I've seen. There is no sense of design to it. It's just a box with a TINY TFT screen on it. Couldn't Syabas have learned something from Dune's designs? Or even there concept designs? Give us 2 hard drive bays instead of 1 hard drive bay on the thing. place the TFT screen in the center of the unit. What happened to the directional pad that existed on the C-200? That was a great alternative means to access your content on the hard drive when you lost the remote or go tv-less and just use the popcorn hour to play music through your sound system. Unless that new color TFT screen is also a touchscreen I see it as being useless now. Honestly this thing suffers the opposite of what the C-200 had. The C-200 when it was released had a nice sleek case but a crappy interface. The C-300 has a crappy case but a sleek interface. I'm honestly not even going to bother upgrading till the C-400, hopefully then it will have a better looking case and have the 8910 chipset. RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
I have the c-200-
previously had the a-100 and a110- This looks like it still has the way to bright on/standby button in the front- i had to put black gaffers tape over mine on the c-200 to block the light- The LCD panel on the c-200 was a failure, i kept mine off 100% of the time- I don't think I see a need to upgrade from the c-200, if the box design looked better than the c-200 (which is a very ugly box to begin with) i would think about it, but it is just too unattractive. hopefully the c-400 will be better looking and they will listen to their audience before they just throw a product out that isn't ready... again... No need to wait for C400. Asus DBS-700 (Blu-ray 3D disc and 3D ISO file playback with full Blu-ray menu) will be a better choice. This will be my next upgrade for my old C200.

USB is just 2.0 and network play is possible according to ASUS official reply in a chinese forum. No internal bay for hard disk, but external is possible via usb. They use marvell chip. A BD-rom is included and the price is almost the same as C200 in Asia. And they promise long life upgrade for the firmware as their pc motherboards. |

^^ it looks like a nice player almost oppo clonish but cheaper. but i see it only lists DLNA as its network connection so no samba access is a killer.

RE: [6 December 2011] C-300 Announcement, Specifications, Screenshots, UI Presentation
According the the chinese forum (hd.club.tw), this player can perform some functions but the manufacturer cannot mention them as this will violate the regulation/patents/restrictions/copyrights. It is possible to play via network but may need some tricks.
And for the BD region, it supports one region code officially, but actually all code.
