Hi,
I have had problems with my sound now for some time. I have debugged everything I can. My amp has been on repair and fault rectified, so I really thought the problem was solved, but it seems that it comes and goes. The problem is that the audio sounds distorted. as if people lisp terrible, or that you have the treble at max, or that the "gain" is set close to max, or that the sound has a very low bitrate, which is not true. The sound is the same over HDMI, COAXIAL, ANALOG. The analog audio does not go through the amplifier. It was not always like this. Some firmwares earlier, I had no problems. But it seems like it's just me experiencing this problem? RE: [AUDIO] Seriously am I the only one?
Do you use the volume control on the PCH? As soon as you go above 0 there exists the chance for digital clipping, depending on how loud the source material is encoded, which may be what you are experiencing.
If you do then there is a further complication which is a bug that can result in the volume shown not being the volume actually output, which requires a reboot to reset after you've set it back to 0. CDs, for instance, almost always hit 0dB, which is as loud as you can digitally encode a signal. Try to increase it using the volume control on the PCH and you've pretty much guaranteed clipping. This is why you should really only attenuate in the digital domain. Thoughts on Syabas support? Share them here |

When output to HDMI, COAXIAL it is set to "passthrough" meaning I cannot adjust the volume on the PCH. Also the audio is not clipping One other very weird thing is that DTS audio is still being downmixed even due it's not set to do this. I know because my TV cannot downmix DTS.
