YAMJ and MKV question
Hi,
I'm new to these jukeboxes and decided to use YAMJ despite owning a C-200 for a long time now. I'm currently in the process of indexing my movie files (493 in total and I've excluded two movie folders and Series folders for the mean time). Majority of my movies are in MKV format and I use mkvmerge to make them. As a container, though, I know that I can attach other files to these movies. Mostly, I attach images of their movie posters. It was only yesterday that I found out about NFO files. I know that YAMJ can make use of NFO files that are located in the same folder as the movie file itself. If I embed the NFO to the movie using mkvmerge, however, can YAMJ use that as well? If I embed the xml entry, can YAMJ use that as well? There are a few movies that I know I need to create NFO files for, such as 11:14, which is currently named "11 14 2003 720p AC3.mkv" since I can't use colon for names. I'm hoping to have relevant files, like NFO, embedded to reduce clutter but I need to know if YAMJ or other programs can use these embedded files first. Thanks in advance guys

RE: YAMJ and MKV question
With music files, this is extremely common to do and if you dont' do it this way, music systems tend to not work very well with getting artwork.. However with videos, your the first person I have ever heard of doing it. The problem lies in what it takes over all the different systems to extract them. on the google code site for yamj, you'll find the issues section. you can post a new issue (just switch issue to enhancement). yamj is made by a lot of people and if someone wants to take on this project they will.
Keep in mind your the first to ever use this option so I doubt anyone will jump on the idea. But you never know, there are a lot of people that want to be tidy with their files and all it takes is 1 who can help the project to notice this option. |

Thanks for this :-) yup, I got the idea from MP3's ID3 tag, which I'm hoping MKV can provide via its ability to attach files. Update: I took your advice and added an enhancement request, Issue 2238: http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/is...il?id=2238 Hope it gets a positive response BTW, I've only used MKVs when it comes to container formats so far, do other containers have similar functions?

RE: YAMJ and MKV question
MediaInfo can extract some information from media files that is in there, however, very few people add it and it causes more problems than not.
I don't know how we would get the attached files out of the MKV so I'll have to do some research to work this out. If you want the enhancement faster you can do this research and attach as much information as possible to the request, bearing in mind that this is a java program and therefore I would prefer java native code rather than adding another external dependency (ala mediainfo) |

I'm not much of a Java programmer, but I'll see what I can do ![]() BTW, the change I made above game me this URL: Code: file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/SATA_DISK/Movies/The%20Matrix%20Anthology/The%20Animatrix%202003%20720p/04%20Kid%27s%20Story.mkvAnd it, quite unfortunately, is not playing any of the media files. BTW, my HDD has the name New_Volume, and is what registers in PCH. Would this mean that I need to use Code: file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/SATA_DISK/New_Volume/Movies/Code: file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/New_Volume/Movies/ |

RE: YAMJ and MKV question
file:///New_Volume/Movies should work if the drive has a unique name you gave it. You never mentioned what hardware you have, if it's a 200 you can also use the yamj app in the app market to lookup the playerpath start and what the hardware thinks the path is.

RE: YAMJ and MKV question
Ok, found the correct name
My C200 sees my HDD as SATA_DRIVE_A1 for some reason. That did the trick However, some of my movie files didn't have the correct tag entries. From what I've read, one trick is to include a NFO file and YAMJ would be able to correctly get the entry from IMDB. This is an acceptable compromise for me since it seems that no application can read NFO files embedded in MKVs. Is there a way to keep NFO files hidden when browsing via PCH's file browser (i.e. the view when not using any jukeboxes)? Also, is there a way to create playlists in YAMJ? For example, I want some of my movies to be structured, for example: Star Wars Saga, The Evil Dead Anthology, Batman Movies, Marvel Studios Avengers, etc. |

But you never know, there are a lot of people that want to be tidy with their files and all it takes is 1 who can help the project to notice this option. I am actually looking to do this exact same thing. I'm finding so many inconsistencies between scraping programs and the results they return, and I am growing tired of having to rescrape every time I change platforms (Dune, PCH, XBMC, etc). YAMJ seems to be the most ubiquitous as far as being ported to many different platforms. If it could extract .nfo and fanart and thumbnails from the mkv that I have already approved, then I wouldn't have to redo half the rescraped information, nor would I have directories full of extra files. Since mkv is a container, it stands to reason that this would be a doable process. But having researched a little on the internet it seems there is no agreed upon standard way to do this. And that inconsistency is where the issues may lie. If YAMJ could scan the mkv, find what's missing, download what it needs, add it back to the mkv, and then make it's needed auxiliary files, that would be ideal. As an aside, is there good method for adding nfo and jpg and other files to an mkv without remuxing the entire container? |

RE: YAMJ and MKV question
Not sure how you expect an answer here. Since there is no way to use the data inside the mkv, it really doesn't matter how you add it.
To be honest, if it's that much of a pain to change software then you have other tidying up to do. I can bounce between software with just simple correctly named files and everything gets it right. It's really just some the time to do that and it metadata changes all the time to some degree so not sure you really want it to be stale. |
