Active Torrent client make my PCH C200 unstable
I am using my PCH C200 for over 2 years now. And use the standard Torrent client frequently. But unfortunately the Torrent Client makes the PCH-C200 unstable (sometimes freezes the PCH). In the past I thought it was related to the down/upload-speed. So I had limited the downloadspeed to 300 kB for several months. But now it seems that the instability is not related to the down/upload speed but to the number of connected Torrent peers. Unfortunately I did not find any option in the PCH to limit the number of Torrent peers. So the only work-around I found is: manually turn-off torrents when the number of (seeder/lecher) peers becomes to high (over about 100).
Another thing that I do (related to the Torrent client) to avoid problems is: suspend all torrents while watching movies on the PCH. I found out that sometimes videos start to stutter when the Torrent client is active. I think this is caused by the limited CPU power. Unfortunately the PCH does not have a quick-to-use feature to suspend/resume the torrent client. The workarounds I currently use are: • Stop/Start listed torrents • Change download/upload speed limit No forum member any more as of 23-nov-2012 |

RE: Active Torrent client make my PCH C200 unstable
I think the Idea was to run torrent after you finished playback to fill the hours not used.
Concurrent torrent and playback is not a CPU issue per say, I think it's more I/O contention for disk or network... Don't expect a firmware to solve this, it's more about tweaking your torrent streams to the I/O in your setup... PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

For me it is not a problem to suspend the torrents while watching movies. But the main problem for theis situation is: There is no easy way suspending/resuming torrent client. Now my kids and wife have to go to an user unfriendly part of the PCH to stop/resart the torrents. Using the schedular is not always an useful alternative. Implementing a easy-to-use suspend/resume torrent client will do the job. But the torrent client will also freeze the PCH at least twice a week at night when nobody is using the PCH. Mostly a soft-reboot is needed to make the PCH usable again. No forum member any more as of 23-nov-2012 |

RE: Active Torrent client make my PCH C200 unstable
A neat solution would be to have an option in the preferences somewhere to pause all torrents when video is playing, so that the rest of the family don't have to know how to manually stop/start them. The trouble is, that then becomes a feature request which isn't likely to gain much traction with Syabas unless it affects the usability of the 300 series significantly as well, in which case they may consider it a worthwhile addition.

I agree with you. And I think the automatic suspend/resume solution is not harder to implement compared to the manual (button) version. I hope they want to have the same option in the C-300, which makes it a "need to have" instead of a "nice to have" feature. No forum member any more as of 23-nov-2012 |

RE: Active Torrent client make my PCH C200 unstable
You could always raise it as a 300 series feature request and see if people like the idea. If it gets implemented on the 300 then it'll get back-ported to the 200 when the port occurs.

RE: Active Torrent client make my PCH C200 unstable
I'm facing the same issue with C-300 and Transmission 2.42, also as 2.50. Transmission control page http://XX.XX.XX.XX:9091/transmission/web/ becomes inaccessible, it also becomes impossible to telnet or FTP to device. I'm normally using button power off/on to solve the issue.
It appears with several (3+) torrents downloaded the same time, I didn't track the number of connections but will do so. Any way to activate some logging to debug the issue? |
