Could Player Cause Stutter?
I have 3 A-100s in my house pulling video from an MSS WHS. We have had the same setup for years and several times a week we have stutter when playing video. We have learned to live with it but as my kids get older and have friends over to watch movies it is something I need to resolve. It's no fun when you have 20 people over to see a movie that crawls to slow motion. As I begin to troubleshoot I would first like to know if the older players could be an issue or if it is more likely a network or server issue? Could upgrading to a 200 series solve my problems? All of my cd rips are TS_Folder rips.

RE: Could Player Cause Stutter?
stutter is most likely to be caused by the source or the network...
regular maintenance on the MSS WHS like defragmentation and disk health scans could help prevent it. also try to check what processes are active on the MSS WHS when the stutter occurs, CPU, memory and disk I/O are the indicators in Taskmanager... PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

RE: Could Player Cause Stutter?
First video_ts is DVD so its SD and network wise is not excessive, only WiFi will stutter due to bitrate.
Try playing the video_ts from a USB source direct into the player. That way you'll know whether the player can play it or not. How are you folders:- \\MovieName\Video_ts \\MovieName\Audio_ts Video_ts is nowadays becoming a thing of the past thankfully. Anything new is out on Bluray and MKV backups. Both are easier to work with than Video_ts folders. Take one of your video_ts folders and create a DVD ISO from it. Then try that. If that wrks then video_ts may have an issue. Try and do some diagnosing. What do you mean all of my CD rips are video_ts? Did you mean DVD rather than CD? A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

Thanks Willem, I know there are many changes and tweaks that you can perform on the MSS that may help but honestly it has worn me out. It seems the MSS is more of a hobby than a solution so think if it's not a player or a network issue but indead the source it is time to try a NAS and leave my MSS for backup only. Mike (12-24-2011 03:35 PM)chris57 Wrote: First video_ts is DVD so its SD and network wise is not excessive, only WiFi will stutter due to bitrate. Yes, typo, DVD rips. The problem I have with trying to play the file directly attached to the player is that my stutter issue is not easy to replicate. For example yesterday we tried to watch Hall Pass and within 2 minutes it started to run slow and did this for a minute or two before we finally gave up. About 3 hours later I tried to watch again and was able to watch from start to finish without a single issue so if I was able to watch directly from USB with no issues it wouldn't assure that a day later there might not be the same issue. Another thing to add is that all of my files are backups of discs that I physically have and were copied by me using DVDFab so no downloaded video to complicate things. I really think that my issue has to be related to the WHS as so many people seem to have issues with it. So based on the replies from two people I consider very much experts when it comes to the PCH would it be fair to say we could eliminate players and network as issues and it comes down to source be it files or server?
