Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
I thought I would post this information as it has taken me a number of days to sort out my issue after reading a large number of forum posts and suggestions. There have been a number of reported variations of this issue.
Basically when I connected my new A300 to my Gigabit network I made the fatal mistake of creating a Samba share. The result of this was as follows: - hours for the NMJ to scan my TV and DVD collection (talking about 150 movies (ISO files) and 30 TV episodes (mainly AVIs)) - playback stutter of DVD ISO files. AVIs played fine. After reseaching the forums I made the following changes: - video output and frameratesync settings as per Chris' post - http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=55970 - deleted the Samba share and created a NFS-TCP share The result was: - perfect playback of DVD ISO files - reduced NMJ scan time to approx 30mins From what I have read a Samba share appears to work fine on a 100Mb network, but you need an NFS-TCP share on a Gigbabit network. I hope this post is of assistance to anyone who has encountered the same issue. After fixing this issue I am very happy with the A300, especially its UI. I still need to do a bit of work to sort out the NMJ mismatches, but that will come. RE: Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
I'm using only Samba here on my gigabit network.
Dont use NFS personally to share only SMB as I have files on Windows PC's and my NAS. NAS can do NFS but on a Windows PC NFS is a hassle I dont need I've decided. The 300 can process the data more than quick enough over both 100 and gigabit for DVD and even 1:1 Bluray. Although I do think that the latest firmware did affect SMB sharing and not SMB transfers. For your NMJ mismatches try ROM's NMJToolbox2. Thanks Chris. Yep, I was planning to use the toolbox to do a tidy up.

As a continuation of this thread, I noticed during my a300 setup that there were only two settings; 10/100 and auto. Another reason I went for the PCH is that it was about the only media player out there with gigabit ethernet. I know 100MB works fine with pristine BD ISOs but it certainly doesn't hurt to have GB speed; especially if you are pulling additional data like artwork from a NAS and have a gigabit network ( cables and switches ) setup as I do. Under the a300 specifications it lists 10/100/1000. So my question is, does the a300 utilize a gigabit ethernet connection? Thanks, mr |

RE: Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
mr, yes the A300 is Gigabit capable. This is the Auto setting. The colour of the port connection on your Gigabit switch should change to indicate a Gigabit connection. On my Netgear GS608 it goes from amber (10/100Mb) to Green (1000Mb).

Thanks for the confirmation lack. I'm color-blind and never use those indicators. Cheers, moonracer |

RE: Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
After months of frustration I have finally found the problem. It was not the A300, it was an issue in my network. I discovered I had a problem with my Netgear GS605 v2 hub. It was "working" but not had some sort of problem and was causing a bottleneck. Noticed this when I started having issues with my AppleTV. Replaced the hub at the weekend ($33) and the A300 is working perfectly. The NMJ wall is loading much faster, files start playing almost immediately and no issues when playing large MKV or ISO files. I am very happy !

RE: Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
Thanks for posting back. Many incorrectly assume that it is the player as it does not involve you having to do anything other than post a few moans and don't bother to continue investigating. Glad you got it nailed. I'll have to check my GS-605 and GS-608 but I haven't had any problems.

RE: Gigabit Network Setup - DVD ISO file stuttering, long NMJ scan time
Cool...
More often the stutter/freeze issues are found in networks. I also fixed my issues at switch level by managing it specifically. Great you found it! -goAMinD PCH-A300 | W2K8R2 | Blu-Ray collection |
