Over the past year I've made the switch to Full HD and have only encountered 1 problem.
The problem is static noise with pcm audio (which i'm assuming are analog signals) when transmitted over hdmi. What I need to know is whether this is normal behaviour? A technical limitation? My C200 -> connected to my Yamaha AV receiver (2011 model) via hdmi -> connected to my LG TV (2010 model) via hdmi. If this isn't normal behaviour, what would be the cause? Everything digital works fine. Including Dolby TrueHD etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Audio CD's also play with static noise, PCM. As does switching audio streams on DVD/Bluray to PCM audio. Not that I would watch it in PCM - but illustrates the point. I've tried changing the hdmi audio cable, no difference. |

RE: static with pcm audio over hdmi
Just an update as I endeavor to solve this problem.
Thanks to my local audio visual store I've narrowed the problem down to the C200 itself. Thinking it could potentially be the bluray rom i've installed, I have remembered that the same problem occurs with an ISO image (and any file that uses pcm audio), which also suffer from the same problem. I think my C200 is faulty. The LCD panel is dodgey too, but could live without that. |

Not too knowledgeable on earthing, but all my devices are run off the same powerboard which is connected directly to wall socket. What's a possible test to eliminate earthing as the issue? Note that the audio visual stores home theatre (with my C200 plugged in) made the same noises in their system (same 5.1 setup as me), however they had static from all speakers where-as i've only got static from right channels (front and rear in a 5.1 setup). |

RE: static with pcm audio over hdmi
which yamaha receiver do you got ?
with my yamaha receiver one form the *67 range is not giving any issues .... one option could be too use a non earthed connection .... the other option could too just earth the popcorn hour .... you could try too narrow the issue in your popcorn hour down too a mother board issue or an issue of an other device .... most extreme option would be too play music from an usb stick which using a different ATX power supply an have all other equipment in in your c200 disconnected ... |

RE: static with pcm audio over hdmi
if you want to test an earth issue find an extension cord you dont care about and snap the ground pin off of it. and plug the pch into the extension cord and the extension cord into the wall

If I still had a spare ATX power supply I could've tried this. I built computers for family members and gave them away ![]() (01-14-2012 01:42 AM)halfelite Wrote: if you want to test an earth issue find an extension cord you dont care about and snap the ground pin off of it. and plug the pch into the extension cord and the extension cord into the wall All my extension cords are pretty new, but I got some shitty double adaptors I don't care about which I will try this out with. Hack sawed the ground prong off, no difference |

RE: static with pcm audio over hdmi

You can hear static straight away. Ambient room noise is at the end, when I stop it. It was recorded with my mobile phone, it can be played with Quicktime. http://www.mediafire.com/?tv8e8u04jt83r54 Just another note: directly hooking up the C200 to the TV via HDMI and using the TV's inbuilt speakers also suffers the same audio issues. |

I live in Australia. I've submitted a support ticket with the company I purchased it from (they offer to handle 12month warranty before purchase), who have been relaying it to their "popcorn hour rep". Their first response didn't solve any thing. I sent them back more information which has also been relayed to their "popcorn hour rep" who has yet to respond. Also this isn't the only problem with my C200. The LCD panel has variable brightness or doesn't work at all. For months I didn't know what the LCD screen should've looked like, then one day it was on full brightness. This indicated that it wasn't functioning correctly. 99% of the time it's flickering at low brightness. Barely readable, if at all. |
