dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
Can someone please help and answer on some audio questios? Is it better to buy dedicated dac like dacmagic (or something in that price range) and use it with c-200 as audio player or buy squeezebox touch and use it as audio player and dac with squeezebox server on c-200? If instaling squeezebox app on c-200 should i need always to have PC on while listening to touch? If that so i dont need squeezebox app on c-200, but instal it on PC, right? THNX in advance!!

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
Why use a DAC like DACmagic if you can use the receiver.... that has DAC inside also... might even be the same chip as DACmagic uses...

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 + 6 Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
10 NTFS 2TB USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A400, 2 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB, 2 Seagate Central NAS 4TB.

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box...

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
It depends here

If you have a Processor and a amp for your speakers and your processor can handle stabilised analogue inputs it can be a good idea .... You like too spend a few 1000 bugs for the % better audio ...

In any other solution i am not sure if it is worth the money ..... On a high end receiver you already have good DAC and those dacs have possible a stabilised analogue connection too your amp (in the receiver) and connecting this too your receiver can only be done with a non stabilised (just RCA) connection so .... it is less quality audio...

But remember listening before buying is important ....

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
I have an older external DAC on my C200, I'm pretty happy with it. It made a noticeable (although slight... but was noticeable) audio improvment specifically in FLAC files.

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
Thnx on suggestions. I forget to say that i have allready c-200 conect to nad c316bee stereo integrated amp with stereo speakers so im using it mostly for stereo flac listening. I dont have receiver. I must say im very satisfied with c-200 playing stereo. Probably squeezebox touch is (much?) better in that way, but i like c-200 multimedia functions. So when i read that i can instal squeezebox server on c-200 that quite interested me. In that way i asked: dac or squeezebox?

Generaly i think on what i have read, squeezebox is much better for audio then any media player around. Iin my country i dont have chance to try it, even to buy it so i have to go in other country or order on ebay, what is veeeeeery complicated here and veeeery expencive. Second, with good dac i want to upgrade c-200 to better stereo sound. I ve heard dacmagic with my old icy box media player and it sounded much much emproved. In both ways answer is: improve stereo sound and have fun.

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
I've used a DacMagic with a C-200 and it sounds really good. It's not bad in its own right anyway, but the DacMagic definitely helps.

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
i will not expect an USB DAC too be working ... as there will be some requirements for drivers and such which will not be there..

Not every USB DAC requires special drivers.
I have DACport that runs with standard USB audio drivers. I can try and connect it to my PCH C-200 to see if it works that way but I doubt that it will.

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
but how will the NMT know where to send the audio?

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
All my hi-rez flac files are played with my A-210 which is paired with CA dacmagic plus. To me the sound i am hearing is livelier and has more body compared to internal dac of my receiver.

If you have friends that have an external dac, try it and decide whether this is the route you're goin to.Smile

RE: dac for c-200 or squeezebox touch
So it all depends on the quality of the DAC in your receiver.
