Adding external USB HDD and Oversight
I'm going to add an external USB 2TB HDD attached to one of the rear USB connectors to store more movies. My internal disk (share) has the software and TV, Movies folders etc.
What should I call the new disk and what folder structure names and how do I configure it in Oversight. I can only find references to NAS1, 2 etc...?? RE: Adding external USB HDD and Oversight
As long as you don't use the default naming system, it should be OK. Under Windows just assign a name to the disc that you like. I just use names that reflect the disc, eg, for a Maxtor 750 GB Disc, I might use Max_750 as the name. You may wish to be a little more structured. The folder structure on the disc does not really matter, except again for your own tastes.
In Oversight, just set the path as per the name. So, if you have a USB disc named Fred, with a folder called Movies, the full path would be /Fred/Movies remembering to use commas as appropriate. Film fan, not computer buff. |

I entered the path /titan/movies and a new entry appears in Oversight setup as /titan/movies . So far so good... I can find the drive on the C200 under the USB icon and on my Windows 7 Ultimate listed under Network ie share, popcorn (internal 8gb) and Titan. I can copy files to Titan. I did a cold reboot of the C200. What doesn't work is scanning - I have copied as a test 28 weeks later (2007) making sure the naming format is correct Not sure where to know? EDIT: Solved: I named the new drive Titan but entered the path in Oversight as titan.

RE: Adding external USB HDD and Oversight
A follow up - the Seagate 2TB seems to partially switch off after about 2 hours inasmuch I can no longer copy from my PC over the network. I get an I/O error message. The strange thing I can still play files off the drive on both the C200 and over the network. To fix the problem I have to turn off the drive by formally detaching and then reattaching (wish there was a menu item on the remote for this). I have downloaded a Seagate tool called FreeAgentCN to check what the power management is doing and altering hopefully the time to say 5 hours.
This model does use Green technology so maybe this is the problem. But it would be good if it were possible to "reattach" a USB drive already physically attached rather than having to pull the plug out and pop it back in for the Popcorn to recognise... any thoughts?
