c200 1080-50-60p
Can anyone help me out with an exact answer why the c200 is unable to produce a stable 1080 50-60p image? I've read several threads but no clear answer yet. The only thing that I see is that It seems to be a general problem. Please don't tell me blurry thoughts like the hdmi cable etc. I've one of the best: vdh hdmi ultimate and I've never experienced such thing with any other hdmi equipment.

RE: c200 1080-50-60p
It's either the HDMI cable or the motherboard.
I agree there must be something about the C200 motherboard that makes it very sensitive to what cable is used. Maybe the signal strength is borderline too weak? How long is your VDH cable? From their website it seems made especially for long lengths. Maybe it's too long for the C200? (The VDH cable is only warranted for 1080i on lengths over 10 meters) Even though your HDMI cable is the best you should at least try another one. For me a €5 noname cable was better than a branded HDMI1.4 cable. Buy two cheap cables, one short and one long, and see if any of them works. After you tried that, and if you still have the problem then contact Popcorn Hour support and tell them about it and ask for a replacement motherboard. They will charge you for it, and they will want the original motherboard sent to them. (If you bought it from a local store and still have warranty then go there first). |

RE: c200 1080-50-60p
It's 1.5m so I don't think that the length would be the problem. I also have a monster 1000HD 1m maybe I'll try out but according to my experience by all sources the vdh cable was superior ( It's a brilliant cable, and the in 720 and 1080 24p it has amazing picture quality with the popcorn also, this is why it's weird). I think the problem is with the hdmi connector. It's a cheap crap, despite the price of the popcorn. Practically I got a HD ready for 300$. I think I'm gonna sell it, doesn't worth the fuss. In 2012 even a smartphone can display 1080 60p. If something at this level can't there is a serious problem.

RE: c200 1080-50-60p
The problem is not codec related. When I try to switch in the settings menu it simply goes fuzzy or black in 1080-50-60p mode. Once it worked for a few minutes, but on the next startup it started all over. Even when it worked the image quality looked like a line doubled 540p image. 720p was better.
In 1080 24hz (where it works fine) and auto framesync mode when it switches automatically to 50-60hz by a movie it does the same as by the manual switch. By the way my tv is an LG47LX6500, but I couldn't identify any brand pattern by the others who experienced the same problem, or just one thing the rest of the tvs were newer types and not older ones. Maybe trying 3d in 720p would solve the hdmi cable question, if it works than it's not a bandwidth issue, it's something else(what I suspect). Maybe I'll give it a try. |

RE: c200 1080-50-60p
I think "pain" has the answer by his last suggestion that it is a motherboard defect. I tried out with the monster 1000HD and it even had interference bars at 720p. Digging deeper in the forum, it seems to me that those who had the problem got it reliably solved only by a motherboard replacement, but that solved it. So the thing is that there are plenty of c200 circulating around with a defect motherboard. My biggest problem is that I bought it used, so I have to fight to get my money back. Conclusion at the end of the day is that don't buy c200 used because you can easily end up like me and without the warranty you won't be able to solve it( and for the first time it may seem that it's operating well). Even with the warranty it will cost you around 80$ because you have to send your motherboard back and both shipment costs are yours.
So finally no mystery, no hdmi cable, but pure defect motherboards. |
