a question about networking, anyone knows why if I copy a movie from the pop to a win 7 pc I get an average speed of 10 MB/s while if I copy a movie from the pc to the pop I get only 200 KB/s??? this is a very strange issue... hope someone could help

I exclude write issue cos' if I copy the movie from an usb drive attached to the pch just work fine... I have to try and set the rwin windows but willwm what do you mean by saying "NIC of PCH getting overrun by data from PC....?"

PCH has to spend a lot of resource to tell the PC to wait, retransmit.

Wireshark is a good free sniffer if you want to see what is going on between the PC and the PCH on the Ethernet and TCP/IP level.

this afternoon I'll format and install arch linux after that I'll try to copy from linux to pch and see if I can have better performance otherwise with wireshark I'll test the process of copy to see where's the problem, but willem could I post my log from wireshark so you or the other users could figure it out what for me maybe seems to difficult?

sure you can post a wireshark log or screen, but filter for relevance... and keep it short..
wireshark runs on windows and is a good tools to see what effects your tweaks and settings are doing to the data stream between PC and PCH...

10MB/s for PC to 300 transfer is not good at all. You must have Wifi or powerline somewhere in there.

I get 11MB/s and then it jumps to 22MB/s if I do the RWIN telnet change.

I have to not be using the same HDD for donwloading or software whilst transferring. Using the HDD for other purposes slows down the transfer.

I don't think you have 22 MB/s on a fast ethernet... fast ethernet=100 Mb/s which is 12,5 MB/s in an ideal world... in real world 9-10 MB/s is the standard... however I've solved my problem it was a bad cable, thanks to all for the tips

auto= 1GB and in the A300 that gives a 22MB/s both ways... all else being optimal...

eheh the next purchase will be a gigabit ethernet router, for now I have to deal with my old router

you're the man! great idea... I've re-crimped my cable and et voila from the further pc now the copy speed is 9 MB/s on a fast ethernet

Yeh a gigabit switch is how most of us get gigabit. I have a router that has 100/10 ports and simply connect one cable from it to a gigabit switch. I then have other gigabit switches in other rooms for each area where I require access.

Saves the LAN traffic going through the router. HD video streaming is a cpu intensive task and routers are best left to doing what they do best and freeing from LAN traffic.
