quick setup for ev testing, was: non-pch install
I vaguely remember lordy once posting about how he was getting this running on his first nas but I couldn't find that post or any info on this setup..
Can someone help with the learning curve on setting up and running oversight from a computer that is not the pch. I don't need too much, really just looking to set it up enough to test out eversion with the aeon skin xml files. More specifics: - plan to test it on an ubuntu dev machine so pre-reqs shouldn't be an issue, I have other options if needed. - don't plan to constantly run it, just need to set it up enough to define my scan paths, playback paths and scan the locations. - don't plan to use the web interface |

RE: non-pch install
@Accident, look up
There is a stickied thread for installing the back end scanner on DNS323 which is how I have my system set up at the moment. One caveat is that when launched from nzbget/unpak.sh it will not create the full index.db files because I had it set up as follows: Code: NAS:But you want something like: Code: NAS:The second behaviour (the one you want) is actually the default behaviour, except when launched from unpak.sh on a NAS. As you are not launching from unpak.sh you should be OK, if not you can disable the first type of behaviour by editing nzbget(unpak.sh) and removing the "NO_DB" switch from unpak.sh at line 1989 Oversight: Jukebox | FeedTime: Automatic nzbs |

Oh look at that, a sticky
I knew you made a post once..I vaguely follow what's going on, but that helps a lot more than before I posted.. I have a vm setup so I can easily just whirl up an image to adjust to what this needs since i'm not planning to full time run it. |

RE: non-pch install
Yup you probably just need to jump straight to the catalog.sh section. I think I've run it from cygwin before too...

Side thought:
It wouldn't be too hard to get a drive in a c200 just to test this.. How hard is to setup a quick install on the nmt and define where the media is to just scan that in, make what I need and uninstall it? i'm really just after what's missing for eversion, make up a for oversight download of eversion, and post any changes in yamj that would benefit the xml script. Also if it feeds of aeon settings, adjusting them to write out xml files sized optimally for eversion like the yamj setup has. |

RE: non-pch install
personally , I'd just
-install oversight from CSI , - go to setup screen , -add scan paths (http://code.google.com/p/oversight/wiki/...irst_Scan) and - do a scan. That should take about 10 minutes or less, to get to that point. Scan takes longer . One of my requirements was easy installation and setup for non-technical users. Then to view it go to NMT Web services and select Oversight. http://code.google.com/p/oversight/wiki/...gOversight When not in use, Oversight completely passive and does not use any additional resources (apart from Disk Space) unless you set up scheduled NAS scans. (It is a CGI script that just runs and exits on each page load) If anyone is working with index.db files, it's much less effort to install it an run it , than to try to avoid installing it

ok, then it's probably best to do it this way.. I'll use a c200 for now and take it for a whirl on the a300 if that's ok...
Of course with eversion, that also means popbox and asiabox support so running it from non-pch might be more important soon

RE: non-pch install
I haven't got an a300 but I think there are some minor fixes to the install scripts needed. c200 should work though!

I guess it's scanning
we'll see what happens. I ran into a dns problem on my c200 but once i figured out the wget errors were that it looks like it's smooth..I assume after it's done it will stop showing # of items and actually let me see the items? side note: I originally grabbed testing from the google code site, it didn't install correctly but the same testing version from teh csi list did go in fine. |

RE: quick setup for ev testing, was: non-pch install
Hopefully its done by now, but even during the scan it will update the index.db every 30 or so entries so there is something to look at.

RE: quick setup for ev testing, was: non-pch install
well the item number kept ticking up, I had an appointment but it was done with the few hundred movies and about 50% through the tv I gave it.. the scan log has stopped about 30 minutes ago..
nothing on the index, and the item count is gone now also. it never updated it.. this is basically a fresh nmt install with only oversight via the link in csi installed. however i'm on beta rc2 so if something changed it could be this. EDITED TO ADD: I take that back, the last.log just moved and it llooks like it's doing images right now.. very slow but doing them. yeah it's not really work all that well, I'm going to assume it's the rc2 (which oyu might want to take a peak at to make sure).. I have the build.php stuff running now.. a variety of weird errors and I hacked it up a little so it might have worked enough to get an ev test out of it. |
