A new option is now being tested where oversight will directly supply eversion with jukebox data skipping all other installs and steps to use them together. Eversion for Oversight.

vaidyasr's port of aeon for NMJ to oversight is able to create yamj XML files which eversion can also use to run from oversight data.

NOTE: these images are taken from a yamj install. It's VERY close only a couple suttle differences between systems.



HARDWARE SUPPORT:

• Multiple Player household
  • Eversion supports different settings for each hardware player you have.
  • you can specify different eskins, different screens, overscan settings, remote control buttons, everything that's a config option.
  • See below for each players support
  • if your media is not all nas stored, some paths may not be wrong and only oversight can fix this.
  • if your media is all nas stored, 1 player can keep your oversight jukebox updated and all others use the same copy. Post for help on this setup.
    
• 100 Series (a100, a110, B110, OEM models)
  • No flash support, can only hold eversion on the drive to be launched from other players.
  • play paths may not work, this would be an oversight change to fix
    
• 200 Series and Asiabox (A200, A210, C200, Asiabox)
  • Fully supported
  • some older firmwares may have some disc playback bugs, updating firmware fixes these.
  • YAMJ App can be used to launch if desired (app market)
  • Current March 2012 RC2 beta may have some oversight bugs from my initial testing, confirm with lordy after he tries it. I don't know oversight at all
  • investigating other launch options like webservices and index files, if you desire this, please post a new thread and we'll work on it for your needs.
    
• 300 Series (A300, C300)
  • Eversion fully supports
  • Oversight has some issues to be worked out, not fully functional yet
  • Use YAMJ App From app Market to start
  • Might be able to network launch from a working 200 series full install
  • File navigating and clicking eversion.phf should also work, untested
    
• Popbox (Original, 3D, OEM, V8)
  • NMT not supported, you cannot run oversight or aeon build.php directly from the popbox. Check the forum for nas installs and other options that may be available to run it.
  • 3D: included remote control does not have a button to get to subtitles, audio tracks etc. replace remote with an IR remote for a popcorn hour, v8, or asiabox. harmony universal remotes also have the ability and button. Sorry, we reported this bug over a year ago and nothing changed.
  • 3D: playback does not resume from bookmark, another bug never fixed by syabas. We had to force no bookmark to stop player from crashing.
  • OEM: Some models do not allow yamj app to be installed, use file browsing to launch (but a pain in the ass).
  • YAMJ App can find and launch on all other models
    
• NAS
  • CSI Install is preconfigured for a hard drive/thumbdrive with oversight and aeon default install location.
  • post for help and we'll start working on how to adjust settings for a nas setup, I have no way to test this at this time.
  • YAMJ App or and index/htm file will work.
    

PROBLEMS/BUGS:

Eversion I believe will fully support this now. There will be differences between oversight, the xml that vaidysars convert and YAMJ. So bugs can be in the firmware, in oversight, vaidysars script or eversion.

When posting a bug please include:
- the hardware player and firmware your running eversion on
- If this player is also running oversight or your trying to do a multiplayer setup/nas setup
- the Jukebox build.php version number converting the database
- the xml for the movie or tv season that's a problem from the Apps/Jukebox/webui/xml folder. (it'll be the same name as the video file)

ESKIN BUGS:

Eskins (flash skins that work with eversion) may use special yamj features that are not available in oversight. Before you try out the other skins, check with the author of the skin to see if it's oversight compatible. I added some features to eversion so a skinner can support the features of yamj for best speed and a slight speed hit on oversight but do those changes in flash that oversight needs to work.

  • Banners not available so posters are the default for tv shows
    

Setup and run:

Required for this to work:
- Oversight installed, setup and your media scanned
- Aeon for oversight installed and the build.php run to convert oversight to yamj xml files for eversion

Install:
- Download CSI Package:eversion download site
- If R0167 can't play your files, add: http://www.dentedboxes.com/files/eversio...htplay.zip
- Use CSI and select file-install from file
- select zip file and install

If you have videos that will not play, download and unzip replacing you eversion.phf with this http://www.dentedboxes.com/files/eversio...htplay.zip

(optional) the trailers section uses youtube videos from a feed provided by lundman, the streaming player is included but rarely updated by syabas for us to use. Install the youtube app in app market and keep it updated for best youtube playback experience/bug fixes, we'll use that player when it's newer

To start:
- oversight and aeon should be installed, running and build.php run to create xml files.
- navigate to your hard drive, select Apps, Eversion and click on the eversion.phf flash file.

I am currently looking into alternative start options. note the yamj app in app market can also be used.

Understanding how it works:
- Oversight is installed and runs normal
- Aeon Movie Wall includes a script to build yamj xml files from oversight data
- Eversion uses those files to run from oversight data.

Oversight scans your media, aeon build.php makes the xml, eversion puts it on the screen and plays.

Quick default skin remote control buttons

These can vary between models and how eversion was started:

- home, home screen or exit depending on model/launch
- menu or search: pop up the menu on the right with genres, etc
- back, go back 1 screen (it's not a browser so it's not infinite back)
- eject: some models this is exit without confirmation, other models nothing happens.

- index:
-- # on an index: % jumping like a video playback. 0=0%, 1=10%, 9=90%
-- play on an index, play everything for that title

- movie details:
-- play: play the video
-- select: play the video
-- #: multipart, play part # (matches key)

- Tv details:
-- play: playlist starting from teh episode your on until the end. (setting to also add the videos before your cursor to the end)
-- Select: play only this episode
-- pause: play a random episode
-- FWD (fast forward) play the last episode (playlist style, see above setting mention)

- EMERGENCY:

If the remote seems to stop responding, or the screen stays blank like when the decoder crashes. Try EJECT or HOME and see if the forced exit still works. If it does not, the player is hard crashed. If it does, I want to know about this bug, its very very very rare.

Sometimes the power+delete or power+eject will still work in a hard crash state. I also find holding the power button for long periods of time can cause the unit to crash out/power down hard if your lazy and don't want to get up. this is not an eversion/flash thing, just somethign I found all players do.

ISO/FOLDER RIP (video_ts, bdmv, bdav) Playlit warning:
- we do not stop full rips from going into a playlist.
- Only the last rip will actually play.
- use the # keys or non-playlist play options to play each iso separately.
- We have been urging syabas to support this because there's no reason they can't.

EVERSION SETTINGS

Oversight doesn't appear to support http or alternative player paths. You'll have to use normal shares, and those paths are maintained by oversight for you.

The artwork options found on the eversion website are YAMJ specific.

Eversion settings are found in Apps/Eversion/eversion/settings
evstreamed eskin setting are found in Apps/eversion/eskins/evstreamed

Installing an eskin

In the Apps/Eversion folder you'll notice the shared and evstreamed eskin. This is the root of the eskin folders. For eskins made for yamj, you'll find they usually have eversion/eskins/their folder name in the zip file. You'll need to put their folder name into Apps/Eversion for oversight.

You'll also need to edit your esettings.xml file which you'll find in Apps/Everison/eversion/settings to change eskin to their folder name. This file is not there by default, you can make your own, see the below website links for more help on settings and how to make them.

All settings need to be loaded. If your running eversion already, just press menu and select reset. Or you can exit eversion and start it again. all settings are instant, and there are no errors on the file if you get it wrong. Sometimes with xml mistakes, opening the file in the browser will so you where you made an error.

REMEMBER: eskins may use features of yamj for their eskin. Common ones are footer and overlay images that yamj makes/combines. It's best to ask the eskin maker if it works or you'll need to mod their eskin to work on oversight without the yamj features (at a speed loss).

There was a problem with the install, looks like a lot of files were missing from it for some reason. I just made up a new zip, tested it from a clean install and it appears to be working.

The fixed download: eversion_oversight_R0162a.zip

Note the a on the end of the filename in case others experience this problem. I did a csi uninstall and then a new install for testing. I'm not sure if csi can just update.. safer to uninstall.

Vaidysar is working on fixing build.php for some xml quirks..

However, that's a perfectly valid xml file.. do you happen to have a text editor that can convert the file to utf-8? I think it's being saved as latin-1 and not utf-8 but you'll need to encode the file

I'll see what the xml data looks like after this round of fixes and post what might be useful if the data is available to make it.

I also warned the eskin makers to update their posts for their skins that won't work, cross post them here if they do and to look into support this if they desire (or help others modding them that are interested)

Something I didn't mention in the first posts is there are 2 player interfaces.. By default we have the normal native player because it's the only ui that supports full subtitles, etc.. If you don't need subtitles, you might like the SDK ui better.. It's a quick setting change to use it. Very limited for on screen info and options so I find family likes it.. However it has great playlist support especially if your tv junky. I actually use this UI myself and prefer it but I dont' need subtitles.

I was going to make a post about differences asking what is and isn't available and if there's things you need to setup to make them work..

There's a lot of different support in yamj xml for it.. minimally there is the codec id hint in audioCodec and videoCodec, 1 per track and " / " between them (space/space). I think with audio there is also (lang) in the field (A_MP3 (en) / A_DTS (jp)) for example.

Then there is also codec support in newer yamjs that's a whole new xml field but it needs 5 raw data fields from mediainfo specifically to populate it and have it work.. We need an expert to start answering some things

I'm sure it would make life easier to simply install oversight to generate your own index.db files if working on the format.
You can create empty test .avi files to scan.

When not scanning it doesn't use any NMT resources. There are no services etc. just a CGI script when looking at the GUI

It's starting to look like there might be some different firmware things that need adjusting to this setup.. if you try this out and get any errors from eversion, please post the error and exactly what player and firmware your using.
