New A300 detects hard disk intermittently

i have the same problem in my a300 i have a 3TB WD30EZRX, sometimes while using the popcorn the disk doesnt show up and it has a in the disk link red circle, and i have to turn off the popcorn and the power socket in the A300 sometimes 2 times until the disk appears. disk problem? popcorn problem?

i had the same problem, in my case it was the popcorn that was defective.

Try another drive and see if that helps, if not

Having a popcorn a300 and a WD20EARX drive, I have been struggeling with this issue for the past few months: after every standby mode, the local media was not available anymore, and only became available after (several) hard reboots.

My assumption from this and other related posts on this forum is that it is a combination of the popcorn and these new type of green drives that shutdown part of the electronics after some idle time, making it unavailable. Ever since I changed the idle settings as described in the link, my popcorn is running without fault (for at least a week now).

Hopefully it will be solved by a next firmware update, but until then you can use this.

FSMIT; same here. Had my PCH A-300 for like 3 weeks when I started to get annoyed and found this trick. It worked for me aswell.

The stats: Performed on an WD20EARX drive, with date of 12 may 2012. Connected the HDD over e-Sata. The software found the WD-drive without the hassle of changing the BIOS settings. (did it on a Fujitsu Laptop)

I have the WD30EARX drive and for me it's working straight forward, I ve done these steps: formatted in ext3 with gparted and gpt partitioning scheme, installed NMT apps on a 2 GB usb drive, connect the drive to the pch, go to mainteance nmt setup wizard and choose media destination for the internal HD. No problems this way, it takes only 30 seconds to wake it up from standby mode so you have only yo wait ;-)

i dont know if its same problem,my c300 with internally fitted 2tb wd20earx sometimes hangs on loading yamj is that common or is this standard practice,the drive was formatted in the PC

Well, a couple of months later I can say that the trick 'sort of' worked. The HDD only wakes up when I shut the pch off in the following matter;

- Select a series,
- then select episodes,
- then select one episode and turn the device off.

Then when I turn it on, I press play. Apparently it only boots up the hdd properly this way. Realy weird..

If anybody has any suggestions, I'll be glad to hear it..

I had similar problems (HD not always detected during start up) with a OCZ SSD SATA III. The PCH interface seems to be, instead a SATA II, and this fact, for specific HD/SSD, could arise a problem. After several attempts I solved replacing the SSD with one equipped with SATA II interface.
