RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
I'm getting 22MB/s on PC > A300 transfers. Using CAT6 wired connections and two gigabit switches in the link between PC and the A300.
The 300 series peaks at 22MB/s via SMB. The 200 peaks at 12MB/s on SMB. The 100 peaks at 7MB/s on SMB. All tested using the same hardware and network. Having any of the link as wireless or powerline will reduce your speeds significantly. FTP will give you slightly higher speeds. NFS is native to the player and some NAs devices and will give quicker speeds than SMB. NFS is not native to Windows users, Windows users are sharing via SMB. NFS performs better if you must use wireless or powerline. thank you for the informative post.
my desktop is two rooms away from my router, no way to go wired, unfortunately. |

RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
it's hopeless
![]() I removed the internal hard drive (and kept the nmj folder) then reset the device (btw, I can never install NMJ apps from the internet, I always have to use 2 USB keys and disconnect the box or else it fails...) the speedtest works fine now (same speed as the other box) but I still get only 5MB/s when the setting is 10/100 and 3MB/s when it's set to Auto ![]() same performance with the 2nd box. |

RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
That's WiFi for you.
Just to satify your self get a ethernet cable and use it to do a test wired transfer. If you do the RWIN trick at the top of the forum section you can get 22MB/s for SMB on a total wired link. RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
I'll test it on a laptop, to see the difference between Wifi and Ethernet.
Would using PLC boxes help at all? |

RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
It will be twice as fast with cat5 cable and WiFi will always be less reliable for playback as it's hard to control who is using the frequency also.. and other disturbances...
Half speed don't matter much for uploading of content to the local NMT drives as 5MB/s will still allow you to do 144GB overnight.. but I would not be wanting to do HD streaming a movies...
PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
you guys were right all along.
I borrowed a 15m (or so) ethernet cable to test the connexion. guess what? now I get ~11MB/s. I already did the RWIN trick based on my internet ping and download speed. still nowhere near the 22MB/s that some get, but double the best I ever got over Wifi. I never thought Wifi was that bad... and that's on a high-end (but not pro/entreprise, only consumer) router. Internet speed between my PC and my ISP remains the same (except a slightly better ping). that does not solve my problem of course. I guess I'll have to live with 5MB/s, or try PLC boxes someday. |

Did you configure your network interface on the a300 for gigabit (setup, network, advanced, speed auto).

RE: Is 3MB/s a normal speed over SMB share?
yes, and it was slower than 10/100
