New user, just got my A300, but how do I use NMJ?

Hi all,

New PCH user here (been using HTPC for years).

I just hooked up my A300 last night, everything works fine. I'm able to browse & watch the movies stored in my WHSv1 box using Network Share/Browser.

Now, I want to be able to use the NMJ interface to browse my movies. How do I do that? I've tried to left click, and click on NMJ, but it said it doesn't have a HDD in it or something like that? Do I have to install a HDD in it in order to have NMJ working even tho all of my movies are stored in my Windows Home Server box? Is the NMJ database store locally? Could I use a USB stick instead if it only needs the storage for the NMJ database?

I'm a bit lost as to how do I get the NMJ going.....

Read through the pdf manual already! As I said above, I right click and tried to select NMJ, but it won't let me! It said something like there's no HDD installed in the device or something like that..... And the manual didn't mention whether a HDD/USB drive is needed for NMJ to run!

go into wherever your media files are located and then do it. I thought the manual was clearer in this area.

If your files are Read ONLY on a network share then as the player has to write the database folder somewhere it will try to write it on an internal source, USB or HDD in the player. If you do not have any local source of storage and are not letting the player write the folder where the files are then you cannot run NMJ.
Simply connect a USB stick of 4Gb and install the NMT Apps on it. Then all will be well.

Thanks! I figured out it was the case of permission. I add the WHS's video folder into the network share. However, I didn't put in the user name & password. Therefore, as you've said, it didn't have the permission to write the database onto the server, and has no internal storage neither. By putting the user name & password of the WHS solved my problem.

Oh, while we add it, I do plan to add another PCH in the house later on. Now since the database is stored on the WHS, when adding a 2nd PCH, and run NMJ, will it overwrite the original database, or it will just use that, or it will create a 2nd database? If it could use just 1 database (the original one) than it will make maintenance of 2 PCH much much easier.
