File transfer speed oddities
Hi all,
I just got a NAS and was playing around with it and my C-200 and began noticing some weird things going on with my file transfer speeds. The C-200 and the NAS are connected to a D-Link Gigabit router. My computer is connected to the same router via WiFi. I have two internal drives in the C-200. If I copy files from one of the C-200 drives to the other, I get a transfer rate of about 650KB/s. If I copy files between the C-200 and the NAS, I get a transfer rates between 750KB/s and 1MB/s. If I copy files from my computer to the C-200 via WiFi, I get a transfer rate of about 3MB/s. Any ideas why the first two transfers are so slow (particularly the drive-to-drive transfer that is internal to the C-200)? Thanks! |

RE: File transfer speed oddities
usually when you see 1 direction slower than another it's a bad cable somewhere. It's hard to tell from this description what is wireless and what isn't. if I had to guess, the c200 may have a bad cable if it's wired or the nas.

RE: File transfer speed oddities
I'm guessing that when you copy between the internal hdds you do it from your PC?
That means data is actually copied first from the C200 disk1 to your PC, and from there back to the C200 disk2, so you really copy the data twice over the network. I guess you are doing the same when copying between the C200 and the NAS? As you see, doing it like that is a bad idea. When you want to copy between the internal hdds, use the "file mode" from the C200 remote. That way the transfer will not go via your PC, and speed should be better at maybe 5-10MB/s. The same when copying to/from the NAS. Start the copy with the C200 remote, avoiding going via the PC. |
