HDD copying to usb, etc.SLOW (hdparm?)
I find hdd speed quite slow when copying something to a usb key compared to when I do on any other device at home, but I am not sure if it's the normal speed or I should need some tweaking.
here is the outpot of hdparm: hdparm -tT /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing buffer-cache reads: 42 MB in 0.51 seconds = 82847 kB/s Timing buffered disk reads: 25 MB in 3.16 seconds = 8095 kB/s -- Also without options hdparm seems to say UDMA and other flags are not compatible with my harddisk but I'd say that is not correct, as it is a 1TB disk with UDMA, etc so maybe it's something related to popcorn hdd drivers? hdparm /dev/sda /dev/sda: hdparm: HDIO_GET_MULTCOUNT: Inappropriate ioctl for device IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) <---- ????? hdparm: HDIO_GET_UNMASKINTR: Inappropriate ioctl for device hdparm: HDIO_GET_DMA: Inappropriate ioctl for device <----???? hdparm: HDIO_GET_KEEPSETTINGS: Inappropriate ioctl for device readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 256 (on) geometry = 56065/255/63, sectors = 1953525168, start = 0 Thanks for any tips! |

RE: HDD copying to usb, etc.SLOW (hdparm?)
USB keys are usually very slow, particularly when writing. 8 MB/s is probably just right.

RE: HDD copying to usb, etc.SLOW (hdparm?)
what i meant is that the hardisk is slow copying to a usb compared to when I do the same in pc, truth is the hdd is too slow overall. And those hdparm tests show too slow speed. No tips?

RE: HDD copying to usb, etc.SLOW (hdparm?)
The tip is... to not compare performance of the NMT system to the PC system.
The bottleneck is not the diskspeed of HDD or USB but the systembus moving the data from A to B. PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB, 2 Seagate Central 4TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |
