How do I play back media from my WHS on an A110?

Hi

I have been a long term user of the A110 but only playing media from the onboard HDD. I have no filled the onboard 2TB drive and want to start streaming from my WHS.

How do I set this up? The files I am looking to play back are DVD rips in VOB format (i.e. each folder is a direct rip of the DVD with individual VOB files etc).

I have read through the manual and a few posts on here and have gotten confused

I haven't done this in a while so I hope I do not forget anything.
You have to have the NMT aps installed in your A110.
Start the SMB App
Then connect an ethernet cable from your A110 to the network your WHS is on.

And from the Wiki
Configure the NMT to access SMB/NFS shares?
Setting up a SMB share:
Go to "Setup" -> "Media Server" -> "Network Share"
Browse your SMB network and add the path to the list, or manually enter the path to your SMB share, for example:
smb:/// or smb:///
so then:
SMB://WHS IP Address/Name of the WHS folder with videos
or
SMB://WHS Name/Name of WHS Folder with videos

Thanks for the help.

I seem to be able to connect to the drive on my server and access the top level folder called "video". However when i select this i get an error message

"Request cannot be processed"

Is this a server side issue or NMT issue?

For clarity I have turned off password protection for sharing on the server

Whs might not like no password. I've used whs and whs11 with my A200 and a300 so I know it works. If the share is right you should be able to browse to it. If you can get that far then there's something else going.

What files are you trying?

I am also running whs2011.

I am not getting as far as running files. My server drive has a top level folder called "video" (which i can access) and the subfolders which contain DVD rips. I cant get to the subfolders.

In whs11 i have set permissions for "everyone" to full control on the folder and all subfolders.

Appears WHS didnt give permission to all sub folders.

Got the same problem but then with NFS, directory's are password protected (same name & password as folder name) so I can select the NFS share, then I can select Movies/Audio/pictures/playlist, if I select 1 of them I got the same error as B4i, if I delete the password I can't access the folder at all so.

It's like it needs some thing else.

@B4i: did you just shared it or did you also setted permissions. Share => Advanced sharing => Permissions if you don't do it like that then you setted permissions on local user level and not on share level.

I did both. Although not the most secure i gave everyone on the network full permissions. When i get 5 minutes i plan on setting some proper security settings so only the nmt can access the files

I've now "installed" YAMJ and it took almost 8h to generate the movie list.
