how to force genres
couldnt find what im looking for in the search..

im running eversion and I want to control what the genre list looks like when I press menu --> genre.

I've created nfo files for all tvshows and movies I have and manually put in what genre i'd like it to show.. I've added all these genres to genres-default.xml and deleted all the other references.

my movies seem to show up ok, however about 20 different tv shows show up in genres I shouldn't have.. for instance "24" shows up in "action and adventure" while in the NFO I have specified it should be in "01-tv" (it also shows up in that genre). The odd thing is that when i look at the details it does say "01-tv" in genres description, however running yamj still creates some odd genres..

is there any way to force yamj to use the 1 and only correct genre, or to ensure that genres I dont want are not shown in the eversion list?

any help is appreciated

RE: how to force genres
sounds like you may have found a bug with tv shows and nfo files/genres.. just to double check, the nfo file for the tv show is a tv show format and not a movie format?

RE: how to force genres
well.. not sure..

here's an NFO of 24 (one of the shows that pops up under the "action and adventure" genre)

PHP Code:

now, 24 also shows up in the 01-TV genre..

in the details view of the tv show I see only 01-TV whether I open the page by going to genre --> 01-TV or genre --> action and adventure.

some other series have the same issues, some series are just fine and only show up in "01-TV" genre.. it seems however the NFO format is the same.

I tried to edit genres-default.xml and forced all subgenres under 01-TV but after I re-ran YAMJ I still see all kinds of genres in the menu --> genre list popping up.

I'm trying now to add

PHP Code:
mjb.filter.genres=true

to skin.properties and see if that works..

any other suggestions?[/quote]

RE: how to force genres
You might be experiencing a recently found bug when an index exists but becomes empty the old copy remains. Try deleting the genre_ XML files and run ymj

RE: how to force genres
i went into the jukebox folder.. deleted all files that start with genre and end with .xml but I still get random genres showing up in the list.

it seems the genres from my nfo files are not picked up.. checking the format nfo's all look the same, so I dont get why some show up in the correct genre, and some dont.

i also already tried creating an entirely new jukebox, so I dont think it's an index thing.. as that also didnt work.

any other suggestions?

RE: how to force genres
check the yamj log and verify that the nfo files are being seen and used without errors.

RE: how to force genres
euhm moviejukebox file? not sure what to look for..

I found this
PHP Code:
[00:24:45 Thread-2NFOScannerFound DISKSTATION02-tvshows24Season 1Season 1.nfo

seems ok right?

although the season1.nfo file says:

PHP Code:
<genre>01-TV</genre

24 still appears in the eversion genre list under both "01-TV" as "Action and Adventure"

I've tried to add action and adventure as a subgenre under "01-TV" (also tried deleting all genre.xml files from the jukebox, but after re-running Yamj and checking the genre list.. action and adventure is still there..

:-(

what to do?

RE: how to force genres
If that's all the nfo file has in it, I know a recent yamj was made to support the missing parent node nfo format but I have no clue if it's buggy or works with tv.. Now you said this particular tv show does show that as the only genre but it's still appearing in other indexes?

Double check the other seasons, see if any of them are not picking up an nfo file.. tv shows are a set of all the different seasons so you have to change the genres for all the seasons. you can do that easily with a 24.nfo file 1 folder down from where your season 1.nfo file is.

Of course 1 thing I forgot before is since this is a tv show, make sure you also delete the set_tv show xml file which might have the old genres in it still and where this is going wrong.

RE: how to force genres
Maybe I'm getting my NFO files wrong.. not sure how YAMJ picks it up.. but the show description I called Season 1.nfo and it sits in the season 1 folder

then I have seperate NFO's for each episode.

That's all I have for the moment.

I tried looking for set_tv show xml but I dont have it.. should I delete library_tv or other_tv? besides certification_tv those are the only xml files I find in the jukebox with tv reference.

Also delete all genres again and re-run yamj?

RE: how to force genres
ok solved..

not sure what the exact solution was, but here's what I did:

1. move all season 1.nfo files up to the root and rename them folder name.nfo (ie if foldername is 24 then show nfo file is called 24.nfo)

2. deleted most nfo files
- any nfo file with genre in the filename
- any nfo file with tv in the filename
- categories nfo
- all related tv shows with nfo
- other nfo files that have any link to genres

3. re-running my_jamj

bit odd, cause I expected fixing genres.xml would fix the problem..
