Outdoor Wifi-connectivity issues between the NMT Remote app and the PCH C-200
L.S.,
I have a Popcorn Hour C-200 that is connected by cable. At home I have a wireless network, consisting of the Wifi on my router (Siemens Gigaset) upstairs, and since a couple of months I also have an access point (VP link) downstairs. One of the things I use my Popcorn Hour for is playing music outdoors. In my garden I have wireless JBL-speakers. The Popcorn Hour is connected to the transmitter. Because I want to be able to browse through my media while I'm sitting outside, I want to use an iPhone app to control the Popcorn. I use NMT Remote by Teo Emmanuel, which works fine inside, but outside there's always trouble connecting with the Popcorn Hour. My Wifi-signal outside is strong enough to use the internet properly, or to stream music from my NAS to the media player on my iPhone (DS Audio). But strangely enough the Wifi is giving me trouble connecting my iPhone-app with the Popcorn Hour. It gets disconnected all the time, and to get re-connected, first I have to go back indoors and manually reboot the PCH. It's really annoying. I've been considering buying a stronger Wifi access point, but the store suggested that first I took things up with you guys. Do you have an opinion about solving this problem? Is just a matter of buying a stronger access point? |

RE: Outdoor Wifi-connectivity issues between the NMT Remote app and the PCH C-200
Check for firmware updates and change the channels on the access point first. I'd probably consider an outdoor antenna or higher gain antennas before throwing more access points at the problem. keep in mind speakers will interfere with wireless signals so think of what's between you and the access point not just which access point your using. relocating it to a different spot might be all you need.
