C200 and streaming from NAS, problem with video playback.
Hi everyone. I hope this is the right place to put my question.

I have a problem with my C200.
The problem i have is that i cannot get high-resolution videos to play without studdering and stopping. This normally comes when the stream exeeds 15Mbps (as far as i have seen).

I stream all my videos from my Netgear ReadyNAS Duo V2 with two Segate 2TB drives.
When i copy files from a computer to and from the NAS i get around 50MBps speed. The NAS is connected to my the network via cable and 1000Mbps connection.

My PcH C200 is connected to my network via cable, and i have set the settings to 10/100 Mbps, and i use Dynamic IP via my DHCP server.

I have mounted the NAS as a Samba share with the correct IP address, foldername and sharename.

I have tried quite a few different things:
  • I have tried a number of different switches, both 10/100Mbps and 1000Mbps switches. No difference.
  • I have tried all the different partition types on the NAS. No difference.
  • I have tried different drives in the NAS. No difference.
  • I have tried to use a NFS connection in stead of a Samba on the C200, but i cannot get access to the NAS with NFS.
  • I have tried different cables. No difference.
  • I have tried to transfer the same exact movie to a USB disk, and then it works perfect on my C200.
  • I have tried to stream the same exact movie from my staionary computer, and then it works perfectly!
When i start a movie, it seems to work fine for 5-10 minutes, then it starts to studder. I can pause it, and restart it and it works again for everything from a few seconds to a few minutes.
It seems that if i pause it for a loonger period of time, it works loonger than if i just do a quick pause and then play again.

I have searched the forum to try to find a resolution to this, but could not find anything.

I have also talked to Netgear about the problem, but since everything works fine if i play the movie on a computer, and the transfer speeds seems OK, everything must be (??) fine with my NAS.

Hope i have given a good enough explanation of my problem, and i hope someone have a solution.

Thank you!

RE: C200 and streaming from NAS, problem with video playback.
Thanks for the suggestion, but i normally have my C200 connected to a gigabit switch, and if i put it to Auto, it does not connect at all to the network. If i set it to auto and connect it to a regular 10/100Mb switch, it works fine.

RE: C200 and streaming from NAS, problem with video playback.
This all points to the NAS, streaming to a PC is way different then streaming to the PCH, The PC will request data for as much as it can buffer, the pch just asks for a steady stream with little buffer, So if your NAS Slows down a bit you would not see it on a PC as it may have received enough data in cache for 10 minutes ahead of the point you are at. And as the PCH plays from a pc in same network setup just fine supports this theory even more. I would try to see if the NAS has jumbo frames and if so try turning them off

RE: C200 and streaming from NAS, problem with video playback.
Hi again.

My NAS does not have Jumbo Frames support, at least as far as i could find out.
Is there any way to get the PCH to buffer some video instead of relying on a constant stream?
