RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
I plan to change my C-300 PSU because it is too noisy for me. I use an internal HDD (3.5" 2TB WD drive) and some USB sticks (one for NMT Apps and an other for my YAMJ/Eversion Jukebox). It seems the PicoPSU-120 would be a good choice for the replacement. The only thing I do not know what AC/DC power supply would be the optimal solution? I read that the 110W PSU has an active cooling (a fan) and it is very loud at high load. The 80W unit has passive cooling but is it enough for the above configuration?

Should be more than enough. According to my measurements the C300 doesn't take more than 16W (if i remember correctly) without HDD. Add 5W for the HDD and 1-2W more for the sticks... Still nowhere near the half of a 60W brick which i'm using currently. (mine runs fine since ~3 months with a 12V FSP panel PSU with 60W FSP adapter - taken from a Gigabyte MIB T5140 case which costs around 16k HUF)

RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
Yes, Puchok, I had the same problem.

Yesterday I got a PicoPSU-90 and a 60W power brick and the problem was solved. It is fantastic, now my C-300 is completely silent! I think Syabas has to rethink why they use this noisy PSU for a high-end multimedia player... It is a shame. Angry

RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
It's the same as everyone else uses on their players.

The C300 is the top PCH model but at £350 it is not a high-end product. Have a look here for a high-end product:-
http://www.kaleidescape.com/
If you look at the website you'll actually see that there's not a lot of difference between NMJ and Kaleidescape who charge $0,000's.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
OK, Chris, you are right, Popcorn is not a high-end category multimedia player and I can not compare to Kaleidescape products.
I've read many comments regarding the weak PSU in the C-200 topic and I think it would be a better business politics if Syabas would use a good (but not so cheaper) quality PSU. If I had paid more for this I should have done it.

Puchok, in the above comment from tsc he said that 60W PSU from FSP was OK. I think you can find a cheaper PSU than my PicoPSU. Or you can try to change the PSU with local reseller but you have a higher chance to get similar noisy PSU...

Thank you.

RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
I think the noise is Coil Whine. https://www.google.nl/search?aq=f&source...+whine+psu

Some people suggested to put some glue in the coil to stop it from whining.

RE: C-300 Power supply weird sound
If anyone does try the glue, read the google articles to make sure your using a glue that is heat safe and doesn't change the functionality of the coil by shorting it.
